Deli Prices!
I normally bring lunch from home for this very reason but today I had nothing in the house and was running late. I just stopped at a local deli and got a turkey sandwich and a bottle of iced tea.
Over $9!!!!
That is crazy!!! And this is LI- not even Manhattan. What on earth??
Total rip off!!

Yeah, I got a salad and a wheat roll from Saladworks (no drink) and that was $9! Food prices are really steep lately. I too usually bring lunch from home but ran out of lunch making supplies yesterday. So I feel your pain.

Re: Deli Prices!
i agree... this is why although there is an awesome deli down the block from my school, i always pack my lunch. also, do they really need to put a half-pound of meat on ONE sandwich? i would rather pay half the price for a sandwich with a lot less meat on it. and charing 50 - 75 cents extra for a slice of tomato?? ridiculous!

I know!! This sandwich was HUGE. I wish they had an option of a smaller sandwich with less meat for less money. I don't need to eat a pound of turkey for lunch!

Re: Deli Prices!
Not to defend the horrible prices, but my parents own a deli/hero shop and they only raise the prices bc the supplier raises his prices. They charge 7.25 I believe for a 12 inch turkey hero with lettuce, tomato, onion. Anything such as olives, sweet peppers, pickles, that is $.50 extra. And a 20 oz drink is 1.75. They do load up the sandwhich, bc that is what the majority want.

Re: Deli Prices!
We have a lot of really good delis by work, but very $$$. Like you said, the sandwhiches are huge, so I usally just put half away and have it fro the next day. Doesn't work too good with salds though, too soggy!

Re: Deli Prices!
I know its redic, I hate a ton of meat on my sandwich and prefer more cheese then meat.
I really just make my own sandwiches because the Deli people just dont get it. if i ask for extra cheese they maybe put on 2 really thin slices, with a pound of turkey.
So i make my own, with 3 slices of thin sliced turkey, and 4 slices of thick sliced cheese! YUM!

Re: Deli Prices!
this is why we do our best to pack lunches every day. we ususally leave feta, tomatoes, onion, pepper, cuc's, and olive oil and oregano around for 'emergency greek salads'

Re: Deli Prices!
i've learned a cheaper way out. Order a 1/8lb of meat (or if at the grocery store, u can actually oreder by # of slices), grab or roll from the bakery & put it together myself. Most places give u condiment packs if you ask too...works out a little cheaper!
