IUI process

Can someone explain to me what happens with an IUI. Does DH give the sample at the office? at home? should I have him drive me to the procedure? how long does it take?

any info would be appreciated

Re: IUI process

when I had them DH dropped the sample off one hour before the IUI was scheduled... he got the sample at home and then dropped it off... then I went ahead and went to the doc solo.

The whole process took about 15 minutes- 5 minutes for IUI (if that) and 10 minutes "resting" after the procedure... it really isn't a big deal @ all.

I had back-to-back IUIs- one each AM two days in a row.

good luck!

Re: IUI process

For us, DH got the sample at home, we then both went to the Dr's office. While they were preparing the "goods", I was getting another sono just to check on the size of the follie and to make sure everything was ok. Then about 20 mins after the sono was done they called me in, did the IUI...took all of 5 mins. Then the nurse went and got DH, he sat in the room with me durin gthe "rest" period. They had me stay in the room for a half hour. DH drove me home afterwards and I got a bit crampy later that night and the following morning but it was totally bareable.

Did they not allow him in room during IUI or did he not want to be there?

Mine is always there next to me.

Damn half hour of rest must be nice. I feel like after 5 minutes they are tapping feet outside waiting for the room.

Re: IUI process

we always get the sample at home and then go to drs office,
once we drop it off it usually takes about a half hour, then they call us in, dh always goes in for this, they take blood, do a sono and then do the iui
i usually wait about 10 min, it actuall depends on the dr but no longer than 15 min, and then leave, it really isnt a big deal not painful at all

Re: IUI process

Off topic..sort of... I love when they hand you the plastic cup (or the brown lunch bag with the cup in it) and they say "have DH produce a sample".

Always makes me laugh.

By the way, the 'produce a sample room' at SIRM in NYC - the door is marked "OVAL OFFICE". I thought that was hysterical, so did DH.

Re: IUI process

DH does his sample at home and then drops it off at 7am, then I go in at 8am for the iui, takes 2-5 minutes and then I "rest" for 10 minutes. Usually home by 9am.

He could have gone in, but I didn't want him there, he was mad that I didn't want him there, but it was my choice.

I have no idea why they let you rest for so long in my office. But it was very much appreciated.

Re: IUI process

Because of the distance between where DH works and my RE, he always went into the office to give his sample. Then I would go in approx an hour to 90 minutes after that and DH would wait around until my appointment. They did BW and then we were brought in for the IUI. It lasted no more than 10 minutes between sono check and the insemination. My RE advised resting for 20 minutes and they would always dim the lights for that Chat Icon
