Overwhelmed
Please tell me I'm not alone in this! We are officially in contract with our house. Of course, I am very excited! However, I am also sooo nervous. After working all the numbers I know that we can afford it, it's just that the mortgage with taxes number sounds so high! I told my DH that he is going to have to write that check every month because it's going to make me nauseous to see that all of the time. Thank you for listening to me vent!

Re: Overwhelmed
You are not alone at all. When we were in contract on this house I swear I figured out all of our expenses almost every night.
Everything will work out - it is very scary but worth it!

Re: Overwhelmed
That is exactly how we're feeling. we just signed the contract for our house and instead of feeling excited, we're both nauseous. I'm sure excitement will come soon but it's scary when you try to work the numbers.
Everyone says you just make it work and at the end of the day, you've got a great house to come home to!

Re: Overwhelmed
I understand...we're also under contract right now and completely stressed out right now when we figure out our monthly expenses. It will all work out though...I keep telling myself that

Re: Overwhelmed
I think everyone who is a first time home buyer feels this way; I know I did. We have been in our home since January and it does get better over time. Hang in there ladies!

Re: Overwhelmed
I am in the same boat. We are in contract with our first house. We were supposed to close on 3/31, but if got pushed back, as excited as i am to finally be in my own house, i was excited to be able to save for a few more weeks. Its scary, its A LOT of money, the bills, motgage, taxes, fixing things, it really is a lot. Personally, im willing to give up the smaller things for a while to be able to buy a house. No more going out to dinner all weekend, no more manicures every week, no more jewlery, but i wont be paying someone elses mortgage with renting, and i will be a homeowner at 24 yrs old - not bad

Re: Overwhelmed
Thank you! I am glad to see that others feel the same way. I think it's hard for me too because my DH doesn't get nervous with things like this. He sees it as we are going to own something and it's not supposed to be easy. He keeps telling me we are going to be fine and we can afford it. He tries to be sympathetic but we just see it differently. The one good thing is that seeing him be calm about it makes me feel like it really will be OK. It's like a rollercoaster. I feel excited, then I get really nervous again.
Congratulations to everyone! Our closing date is May 30th.

Re: Overwhelmed
I am very overwhelmed also. We are in contract on a co-op. At least you don't have to go through the entire co-op process/interview we will.

Re: Overwhelmed
You are NOT alone. We closed on 3/27 and our first mortgage payment is due 5/1. It's worth it in the end because it's yours...not your landlords!!

Re: Overwhelmed
We are there right now. We are in contract and looking at what the payments will be makes us so nervous. Since its our first home, its hard to even guesstimate what some of the utilities will be.
We were suppose to close 4/1, however it was pushed until later this month which will give us extra time for some finals savings.

Re: Overwhelmed
We felt nervous too. But after a few months, when you see that it all works out, the nervousness subsides.

Ditto...my face was buried in spreadsheets so that I could check & double & triple check that we could *do this*
Well we did & it was the best decision ever. It feels really good to come home to your own home every night.
