Out of curiosity
what usually happens at your RE after a failed cycle? Do you speak to the RE's office or is just ok we usually do 3 cycles of iiui/clomid, then 3 cycles of injectables then move onto IVF. I hear people saying oh after this cycle they are starting me on different meds for this and for this. I was just wondering how do you get to the point of knowing if you need a little something extra besides just the follicle enhancing drugs.

Re: Out of curiosity
I seem to remember always haveing a long range plan after the first RE meeting. Like if you respond to Clomid, we'll do 3 cycles, then move to injectibles, etc. The only thing that waivered was IUI vs. BD for a few cycles and we could always make a game day decision. If you have't had this talk yet, maybe you want to schedule a consult and see about a long term plan (that you hopefully won't need!) HTH and best of luck.

Re: Out of curiosity
It definately depends on each individual case and what your RE thinks will work best for you....know what I mean? For me I'm going on my 7th IUI....but the doctor kept me on IUI's for now b/c they've worked for me in the past.
ETA: as far as knowing if you need anything additional other than follicle stimulating drugs....ask the doctor if there are any other type of tests he can do on you. For instance my new RE gave me metformin because he noticed a spike in my insulin....in addition he said metformin helps with egg quality.

Re: Out of curiosity
It depends what your issues are and what your doctor thinks. I consulted with my Dr. after every failed cycle and made a decision with him as to the next plan of action.
However, after my first cancelled cycle on injectibles because I responded too well, he recommended IVF. We wanted to wait and he was fine with us doing a few more rounds of injectible/IUIs. Turns out he was right as those were a waste of time for us but we wanted to do them.

Re: Out of curiosity
I usually have a quick consult with a DR after every visit and we discuss what has happened and what will happen.
EX: 1st visit- I let them know we had hostile mucus issues, so they said they would begin on Clomid on my second month and go right to IUI, (with IUI it goes past the mucus issue)
2nd month- 1st cycle on Clomid and I only got one egg, they said maybe the metformin hadn't kicked in yet or we could up it next cycle.
If this cycle does not work (eggs or PG) I am going to ask if we are going to look deeper into the issue, egg quality, etc.
Good Luck
