# Place the egg into a bowl of cold water. The water level should be deeper than the egg's length.
Observe what the egg does.

* Fresh eggs will sink to the bottom of the bowl and lie on their sides.
* Slightly older eggs (about one week) will lie on the bottom but bob slightly.
* If the egg balances on its smallest end, with the large end reaching for the sky, it's probably around three weeks old.
* Eggs that float at the surface are bad and should not be consumed.

pitch them... they are still edible for a week or so, but they taste off. And once they're no longer edible, you'll get totally Chat Icon not worth the risks.....

I'd just buy new. (that being said, we never had eggs last beyond the expiration date)

typically we don't have that problem, we usually go through the carton before the expiration. but I have thrown out eggs that were AT the 'best by' date. I would personally not eat them past the date. JMO

The Best By Date is usually pretty long from when I purchase them so they are generally gone.. but once I did eat them about a week off. I didn't notice a problem with taste or with my stomach.

thanks girls! i was in the middle of making a meatloaf (figures!) and grabbed the eggs and they were past the date...very past the date (which is pretty unusual for us since we eat them quickly!) but anyway...i did the egg in water test and one sank one tilted! so i ran out to get new ones...better safe than sorry! thanks for your responses!!!
