at what point do you need daily shots?
This may seem like a really dumb question, but at what point to you need to take daily shots? Is it just to prep for IVF or are there other reasons you would need it?

Daily shots for what?
There is injectable medication that can be used for IUI and IVF. Any possible combination of a stimming (ie Gonal F, Follistim, etc.), Menopur, Lupron, Galirelix, etc.
Also, there is Lovenox..it's a blood thinner for blood clotting disorders, if you have that, I do.
Not sure what you are looking for.

If you do medicated IUI's you'll have to do daily injections for the time that you are stimulating your follicles, about 10 days, usually less. For me, it was one injection daily, with a very small needle, of something called Follistim, and then a slightly larger injection at the end, to stimulate ovulation, called Ovidrel.

If you do IUI with injectibles, then you would do daily injections to stimulate your ovaries. Usually with just one medication (I never did IUI w/injectibles, just IUI with Clomid)
If you do IVF, you will take injections every day with more than one type of medication to stimulate your ovaries.

Yup, everything they said, plus you need to take progesterone after an IVF cycle and sometimes that will be an injection as well (PIO). The shots aren't as bad as they sound

Re: at what point do you need daily shots?
I'm just trying to prepare myself for the next step if my unmedicated round of IUI fails. I'm not looking forward to a bunh of shots. And another dumb question, do you go to the Dr for them all, or do you do them at home? If you can't guess, my Dr. doesn't inform me of too much in terms of what to expect.

You do them all at home. Some RE's have an injection class where you learn how to use them. If you're doing them for IUI's it will probably be about a week of injects once a day (maybe twice depending on what you're using). And the injectibles are usuall tiny needles (follistim anyway).
No questions are dumb, we've all been there

Re: at what point do you need daily shots?
You will do all of them - sometimes the nurse will do the HcG or Ovidrel shot, which triggers ovulation, but I always did it myself.
At my practice, before we got started, the nurse sat me and DH down and taught us how to do everything. For the first 2 cycles, DH gave me all my shots because I have an INSANE fear of needles and blood, to the point where I pass out and convulse a little because I get so stressed out about it.
But once we decided IVF was going to be in our future, I realized I would have to suck it up, grow up and do it myself like a big girl. So one night I got stinking drunk and did the first injection in my tummy.
And let me tell you, it's SO not worth the buildup- the needles are tiny and virtually painless.
Just remember, you ALREADY have nerves of steel from being a mommy, you just haven't tapped into it all just yet - but it's there - trust in yourself

You do the shots at home. Daily would be for injectibles. If you first did unmed iui, did you talk about first moving to the clomid?

I'm pretty sure that would be the first, next step. I was just wondering what I "may" (hopefully not) expect in the future.
