Insurance co.
I was curious as to which insurance many of you girls have. I am in the process of changing insurances and would like to be covered by one that covers an RE and possible future infertility treatments. Which cover most and why did you chose it (or was it employer determined and did you find the need to add upon existing coverage? Is most IUI and injectibles covered? IVF? What kind of copay or deductible do you have? Any info would be appreciated! TIA!

Re: Insurance co.
Definitely do your research. Mine was through DH's employer and we had Cigna for the past two years, however - he was with two different companies. With the first, the plan covered most things, including IVF. Then he switched jobs and we chose the best plan w/ Cigna they offered, thinking we were good- but then they didn't cover IVF at all or a lot of the drugs either, like the trigger shot. Just be sure to do your research and call them to find out specifically what the coverage would be.

Re: Insurance co.
I guess the question I have for you is what kind of insurance are you looking for. Individual, small business or is it insurance offered through yours/DH's company?
My answer would be completely different after I know that.
We are a small business and I'm the plan admin, so I know a little bit more than someone who has insurance through their company.
And are you in NY?

My DH and I run a small business, so I have an insurance now that is very affordable that way, but it does not cover any advanced treatment in infertility. I am looking for one that covers this before I actively start looking into an RE, #1 so that I don't get rejected from the insurance after they see that I need fertility treatmen, #2 I know that this sort of thing can get pretty expensive.
Unfortunately, with insurance, I just don't know where to start. We are in NY. Any suggestions on where to begin are much appreciated!

Re: Insurance co.
Ah OK, you are in the same boat as me. Well, IVF is a rider that insurance company's only offer big companies. Its mandated by the state of NY that they offer this rider. Though your company does not have to take it or offer it to their employees. BUT, and here's the part that pisses me off, its not mandatory to offer it to small business SO NO insurance company will offer it as a rider. I know I called everyone of them.
So, I personally think Oxford is the best. But, we pay about $1050 a month for the 2 of us. But, Oxford does offer basic IF. So, with that said, I have gotten a lot covered. All my meds have been covered and there doesn't seem to be a cap on it. All IUI's were covered. For my IVF cycles (and I did 4). The first 2 were not covered and the place I went to took Oxford. The 3 IVF (I have out of network coverage too) I went to a new place that didn't take Oxford and put in all the b/w and u/s and Oxford gave me back 70% (amounted to about $5k). On my 4th, the same place changed over to taking oxford. They had a discount for Oxford Insurance and they put through all my b/w and u/s direct so I only paid for actual E/R and ET and the egg fertilization (plus some extras that I needed like ICSI and co-culture). Forgot to mention that we are now onto donor egg and they just covered my meds for the mock cycle I am doing, plus my egg donor consults.
Anyway, I think Oxford is accepted by most clinics (except NYU).
I think for not having IVF coverage we did really good (each cycle cost us around $10k, don't do the math...LOL, but it could have been $20k each).
So check them out. I actually used an insurance broker. OH and the plan is the Metro Freedom Plan (non-gated, because I'd always forget to get referrals, if you decide to do the referrals the premium would be a little less, and I did the pharmacy of $10/$25/$50 with a $50 co-pay, out of network service with coverage of 70%).
Even if you only do this for one or two years and switch back to your other plan, you probably would be ahead. If you find better, let me know.
