Does It Make You An Awful Person If You Want To....
Change your e-ring setting? I feel kind of guilty, but I toy with changing my platinum solitaire setting to something with diamonds down the side to match my eternity wedding band. I feel bad.  DH says, "We can do it...but that's not what I proposed with."

I don't think it makes you awful, but I don't ever see myself doing it. If I changed the setting it wouldn't have the same sentimental attachment to it for me.

You are in no way an awful person. So many women do this.
But I see DH's point. He picked it out with care and this is what he proposed to you with. And its true-it is not the ring he proposed to you with.
I think its sweet your DH is being so sentimental. But in the end you need to do what you are most comfortable with- and in no way are you an awful person for this. Don't think that.

I was thinking about the same thing- I got an unusual setting, and now I wish I had gone with something more conventioal. DH wasn't happy about it when I mentioned it, so I am going to live with it. It's my own fault, I should have put more thought in when choosing.

I probably won't. My mom changed hers after five years...new diamond and all...and my dad didn't care in the least, but my guy is really sentimental.

I changed my setting a few weeks after we got engaged. I didn't like the original one plus I broke it so he was ok with me getting a new one.

Its really a personal thing b/c you are the one wearing it and have to look at it. I also see DH's point of view too. If you know in your heart it really wont bother him even though he had mentioned its not the ring I proposed with then I would do it, but if there is that doubt then leave it.

I don't think you're an awful person, but I just couldn't do it. I guess I'm sentimental too, but that's the ring he put on my finger - no matter our financial position at the time - and it means so much to me! To be honest, I had shown him something completely different when we were taling about getting engaged, something that I would have preferred, but I wouldn't ever change it now.

Hogwash!!! It doesn't make you a bad person AT ALL!! As long as you and DH are comfortable with the decision, it's totally fine. My DH picked out my ring with the mentality "put all the money into the quality of the diamond and get a simple setting, she can always change the setting down the road." But I actually love my setting and how it goes with my eternity band so I don't think I'll be changing it, but I reserved the right to change my mind in the future.

I hear you! Dan did the same thing with my diamond, it's beautiful and I love it, but I always see settings I'd love to check out. I even like the idea of putting two smaller diamonds on either side to make it a 3-stone!

you can take your old setting and put a sapphire or another stone in there and wear it on your right hand!

Nope you're not an awful person at all. Tastes change. I'm not saying you should change your ering to match your bag, but if after awhile you want something different it certainly doesn't make you a bad person. Would you be upset if he wanted a different wedding band?
My DH gave me a plain platinum setting, knowing I was going to change it -even though we talked about what I liked. He thought it was just easier (and less expensive since I negotiate better) for me to pick out my own setting.

A friend of mine changed hers 3 times...and upgraded the diamond in the process. I think the second diamond she made into a pendant or something.

I got engaged at 23, and I never expected to...
My DH was young and poor and got what he could afford. Of course I loved it...but we had the opportunity to get what I wanted and upgrade, and I took it. It took some cajoling, but in the end it worked out OK...I love my ring set and I am glad I did it. Some people look down on it, but I plan on wearing this for the rest of my life...
I will make a necklace out of the old ring for my daughter...

I TRIED CHANGING MY RING TOO BECAUSE I COULDNT FIND A BAND TO GO NICE WITH IT
HE IS SENTIMENTAL - HE IS EXACTLY THE SAME WAY..
YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THIS WITHOUT HURTING HIS FEELINGS

Does it make you an awful person if you want to change your e-ring setting or upgrade your diamond? No.
But I personally wouldn't do it. I'm too sentimentally attached to the actual ring that he proposed with. I would never ever change or upgrade it. But that's not what you asked, is it?

you are not an awful person for wanting to do that! If you and your DH are comfortable with it, who's there to say anything??
I love my setting and it is exactly what I wanted, however, I am sure I would want something different later on.. as someone mentioned above, you can always put another type of stone on the setting and wear it on the other hand
FH got me a gorgeous, great size and almost flawless diamond, but he agree that I can upgrade later if I want. When I do, I will make this diamond into a pendant, so I can wear it close to my heart
