Do you know where you want to go in the outter banks?
I just got back from a wedding last weekend in Corolla, NC (OBX) and it is really beautiful there. They have wild horses on certian beaches and so many beautiful beach homes to rent.

my parents have a vacation house on Cape Hatteras down there... its a gorgeous area!!
it depends on what you like: cape hatteras, where my parents house is, is a national seashore so a lot of it is preserved, so its not very built up and touristy. its just a great place to really relax for a week  it still has plenty of stuff to do though: movie theater, jet ski rentals, kayak rentals, mini golf, restaurants, food store, free ferry over to ocracoke island..
BUT if you like more to do, like shopping, and more activity- you might want to stay in towns like kitty hawk, nags head, duck... they are all really nice, but a little more built up and more stuff to do.

I'm not even sure which area, since I don't know much about it other than it's a great vacation spot. But thanks for the information. Which airport serves that area?

i'm not sure... we always drive down. its not a bad drive. the main reason is because theres not many hotels down there- its mostsly houses and condos that you rent, and so you need to bring towels, sheets, toilet paper- stuff like that- a lot of stuff to carry on a plane. i dont think theres an airport thats super close to there. i want to say the closest one is in virginia beach, VA... and then its a few hour drive the rest of the way. i THINK theres a small airport on cape hatteras, but its only for private planes.
