Are you responsible?

A lot of the reason I am unsure of having children is the responsibility. I

am very responsible but not sure that I WANT the responsibility of having

a child. DH on the other hand, is completely irresponsible and worries

about himself. This scares me Chat Icon

Re: Are you responsible?

oh! I am in such a similar place to you. I love my husband and he's there for me with the big stuff, but not the small stuff. I do 95% of the housework, even though I work more hours than him. If it's not online poker, it's the PS3, or it Warhammer (an interesting hobby). We've been married for 6 yrs and my clock is def ticking, but I don't know if I can have children with only help on the big issues (child needs to go to the hospital) without the smaller day to day stuff (caring, feeding, changing, cleaning, etc). Plus we can't seem to get out of the cycle of financially supporting a very extravagent brother, a financially irresponsible mother, and nonchalant bil/sil. I don't think I can really stop working or work part time with this financial situation until we figure out how to get these annoying family members off my back. Nor am I sure that we can really afford any kind of child care with this financial burdens.

I don't have any words of advice, just want to say I understand and am going through the same thing. We're really at the point where if we don't have kids in the next couple years, we're not going to have any kids at all and it breaks my heart b/c more than anything I want to be a mom. But I can't see being a mom in this current environment. I don't know how single parents do it. I have nothing but admiration for the good ones.

Good luck and if you figure it out, let me know!

Re: Are you responsible?

I am responsible...but do not want the responsibility of raising a child...Dh is responsible too...we just don't have the patience and are not willing to make the sacrifices necessary to have kids...and we are 100% happy with our choice even if some of those around us aren't!

Re: Are you responsible?

I think we are VERY responsible in some aspects. For example, we pay bills on time, have a good amount saved, etc.
Fiscally responsible yes.

We are responsible pet owners.

We are responsible employees and both hold down good jobs and strive to do well at them.

But then there are the things that I feel we are not responsible with.
I like to stay out late partying and don't want to be "responsible" and come home on time

I let my plants die

I don't clean my house that well or that often

Stuff like that.

So kids for us- no bueno!!!

Re: Are you responsible?

My DH and I are incredibly responsible, financially stable people. We just don't want kids. There is no big fear or one overwhelming reason for us not wanting them. We just don't want to have children.

For us, it really is that simple.
