Brazilian vs. japanese straightening
Please explain to me how these work and what is the difference between the two, also how much it costs, and is it worth it.
TIA

Re: Brazilian vs. japanese straightening
Here is what I know,
JHS: Cost $150 and up, depends where you go or if a special is run Itis a permanent way of hair straightening. You hair is always pin straight, no flat iron needed. You can blow dry and its straight! Chemicals are used to straighten the hair.Hair cant be washed for 2/3 days.
It wont take a curl or anything, it last about 6 months, sometimes longer and in my case it lasted 8mths. I also never went back to get roots redone. For me, I choose not to do it again, JMO.
as of FRI, Im getting Brazilian...esp after someone asking about it and I just did some research. Cost is $150, a special that is being run right now. I know it tends to start at $250 and up. Brazilian The answer to frizzy, hard to manage hair with a unique smoothing treatment. Imagine washing your hair, and after a quick blow dry, you hair is smooth, shiny and frizz free! Safer alternative to the Japanese straightening.
Hair is left with body and incredible shine. Not permanent- The treatment naturally wears away in 3 months. Makes hair styling extremely low maintenance. Allows curls to remain, yet much smoother and softer without any frizz. Perfect for those who battle "Humid Weather" hair.

Re: Brazilian vs. japanese straightening
thanks so much for your response. I think i might do the Brazilian....i can't imagine washing my hair then drying it and it becoming silky smooth. the only way my hair is smooth is if i get profesional blow, if i dry it at home (its still thick and frizzy although the texture is straight)

Re: Brazilian vs. japanese straightening
I do Japanese...
My hair does hold a curl if done with a curling iron and it has body. I truly believe it has EVERYTHING to do with where you have the treatment done. I pay $350 (i get it done at my normal salon for haircuts) and would never go anywhere else. The grow out is annoying, but it's still easier to dry my hair with the grow out than when my hair was all curly/frizzy/wavy. If I don't feel like drying my hair, I can throw it in a bun and the grow out is not noticeable. I also should note that I am very anal about blowing out my hair.. this could be why you can't tell the grow out.. I see plenty of women who've had jhs and I can see clearly their grow out line.. it's all about how you blow it. Blow drying my hair now takes 25-30 minutes (that's with a year and 5 months grow out). My hair is pretty long. I'm getting JHS done again on June 11th. I'm looking forward to not having to blow my hair at all (or simply using a hair dryer and my fingers) and walking away with silky smooth shiny hair.
I've never done Brazilian but my hair lady also does this treatment. She tells me her clients love it. It isn't permanent so it washes out.. and you still need to blow out your hair. I know 2 people who've done it (they both used the treatment with formaldehyde - which I heard was better). On one it broke a lot of her hair off. On the other it washed out in 2 weeks.

If you're looking for more style I'd go with Brazilian.. letting your hair air dry with JHS leaves it straight smooth and shiney.. not necessarily with any style.. but that def depends on your hair cut.

That is my hair to a T, so Im opting for Brazilian. I need to have that body and like a change so pin straight for me is not what I need. Since I have curly hair and not so nice curly hair, I tend to be very FRIZZY so I hear this will help it entirely.

My sister gets the Brazilian done because she is naturally a dark brunette and has her hair heavily highlighted blonde (she's basically a blonde.)
I had JHS done over highlights and I felt like it didn't take as well. I still have to blow dry my hair and my hair looks very dry/damaged.

With Brazilian, can you "wash and go" or do you have to blow dry?

My hair lady told me no... it's not wash and go. It just makes the blow drying easier.. and probably eliminates an iron if you use one...

I thought the Brazillian was not safe to do. There was a whole report on it and how unsafe it was.

Right, due to formaldehyde. Many places claim to have formaldehyde free versions, but I have not found any evidence in any scientific papers or patents that these exist. Allure magaize (or was in Marie Clare?) did a study on "formaldehyde-free" straighening treatments that were tested to find high levels of formaldehyde in them... so just be careful and be informed.
