Is there anything I can do for breathlessness?

I am 17 weeks and so out of breath, like I can't ever get enough air in my lungs. I've tried deep breathing...and exercising does help, but during the workday this feeling is so bad lately.

Anyone experiencing this and if so, anything that maybe helps a little? Thanks in advance :)

I started experiencing this a few weeks ago at like 29 weeks or so. It is totally normal (from what my doctor tells me). I just sit down when it happens and take a few deep breaths. Feel better Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Is there anything I can do for breathlessness?

Just this week I have started to feel this! I am 28 weeks and we have no elevators in our school, and everything I do is on a different floor. I basically run up and down three to four flights of stairs all day long. I am slowing down tremendously lately, and I just will not be able to do this much longer. i don't know how I am going to do the rest of the year. Everything I need, like the bathroom, the kitchen, the copier...ALL on the top floor of our building. I find myself making upwards of 15-18 trips a day up and down the stairs. In our school, you're constantly running somewhere for somethingChat Icon

I also have been feeling like this.
I just sit down for a couple of minutes and try to relax. Also if this happens when I am home, I lay down on my left side for a little while - it helps.

I just don't know why its so bad at 17 weeks! I was very active before pregnancy...and then i was on bed rest and really was told to watch the exercise. Maybe thats why...but i feel like the baby is already pressing on things and causing this feeling. Although I read all the progesterone in the body can cause this.

First it was morning sickness..

Then heartburn..

Now this!!! My mother told me "it must be a boy, its giving you so much trouble already!!" lol!! Thanks Mom!

Keep in mind, every pregnancy is different. What some experience at 26-29 weeks, you may experience early. It could be from the progesterone or that you little one is very active. Listen to your doctor and take it easy. I am sure this will pass. Feel better Chat Icon

I get this too. I was told it's from everything moving up inside to make room for your growing uterus. This pushes up on your solorplex (sp) and your lungs.

You could also be anemic, that is one of the symptoms. I was anemic and had lots of SOB. Whe was your last blood draw?
