Is there a particular brand that is better than others?

It depends what you're using it for..someone I work with swears by the Fairway California olive oil for salads, marinades, etc. but I think for sauteing, etc., you can get most any kind of extra virgin or pure (I could be wrong). I usually get my all purpose at Trader Joe's and am going to get the California kind for everything else (warning: it's about $16.99 a bottle)

I normally buy Filippo Berio.
I also like buying/trying flavored oils. So I tend to find decent ones at TJ Maxx for alot less $$.

another fairway vote....
they have probably a dozen ils for different purposes... I agree with the OP that the california oil is super-yummy...
they have an oil tasting bar so you can make up your mind
