UPDATE - Nutro feeders - FDA says no recall
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2008/06/pet_food_recalls98.html
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2009/04/nutro_foia.html
ETA: oops wrong board.
I reported myself.
UPDATE:
FDA says there is no pending investigation into Nutro. News story
What the heck?? You can't even trust Consumer Affairs now? That's screwed up. I wonder how much business they lost/will lose as a result of this.
Ugh.

Re: Nutro feeders - possible recall coming
One of my dogs has been vomiting half eaten food and yellow bile for several months. Ever since we switched him to a "diet" formula now that I think about it.. Both dogs are nut cases when they play. That dog is always so tense/hyper. I never thought it was the food. Just that they are nuts. Now, I guess he is portraying a lot of symptoms other dogs have. They other dog has the "beef" formula.

Re: Nutro feeders - possible recall coming
Brinkley was throwing up bile only in the early morning (no food) and we read that it could be caused by too many hours with an empty stomach. We started giving him a treat at 9pm and it's much less frequent now. Snow peas or apple though, not bagged treats because those tend to have a lot of protein in them and give them a lot of energy.
I read that reflux after eating can be an early sign of bloat and that you have to prevent them from manic exercise 1 hour before and 1 hour after eating. And to stop them from wolfing their food, to spread it out on a cookie sheet or put an object in their bowl that they have to eat around like a large (clean) rock.
Hope this helps!
Once the thread gets moved, I'll XPost it.

Re: Nutro feeders - possible recall coming
OMG!!!!! I also have been feeding my dog only Nutro food (in particular the NUTRO Natural Choice Lamb Meal & Rice Formula which is mentioned over and over in these claims!!!) since we got her as a puppy!!!
And I totally did not even think about this, but she HAS been throwing up bile recently - I just figured she had eaten something ealier that upset her stomach, but it has happened a number of times in the last few months. NEVER thought it was the food.
I am totally switching her off!!! She's had some upset tummy issues too where she's been up all night and we had to rush her to the vet one day after she was up all night, breathing very heavy, acting completely strange. They said she had a high fever and her white blood cell count came up high (hmmm, sound familiar?) and she took antibiotics etc. She got better and then almost 2 weeks later, she started acting the same!
Please someone recommend a good dog food that's healthy! I saw Science Diet above, is that a good "healthy" dog food? Anything else? Can I get that at Petco or Petland Discounts?
I'm actually almost out of her current bag of food so I want to get the new one asap so I can mix it in with her current food so her tummy doesn't get upset. TIA!!

Re: Nutro feeders - possible recall coming
FYI I just called my Vet's office to ask them about food options - they were not aware at all about what's going on with the Nutro food. They said it's likely just a coincidence that my dog has been throwing up bile etc., and I agree, but I'd MUCH rather be safe than sorry.
They recommended as alternatives: Science Diet Eukanuba Purina One
At our local pet store they only had Science Diet and Eukanuba, so DH just bought a small bag of Science Diet Lamb Meal and Rice Adult Small Bites - this sounds very similar to the current Nutro food she's been eating, so I hope she likes this one and doesn't get sick anymore!!!

Re: Nutro feeders - possible recall coming
This is why I put little faith in these super expensive so called "special" foods. My cat ate Purina Cat Chow all her life- lived to almost 20 years old- and was never sick a day in her life.

Re: Nutro feeders - possible recall coming
Someone posted this on the Pets board a while ago and I actually got physically ill reading it. Read at your own risk, and take it with a grain of salt. The gist is that commercially available dog foods are not regulated and thus have questionable ingredients. There's a helpful guide on how to choose.
I feed Natural Balance but honestly, I'm thinking about switching to either Blue Buffalo or Taste of the Wild. We need a fish-based food for his dry skin, and limited ingredients. I haven't done research on either one yet, but someone posted a thread on holistic foods in Pets the other day.

Off topic, I had to do that for my cat Eddie. He used to INHALE his food. Now I scatter the kibble over a large tray around his toys. Takes him just a little longer to Hoover it all up.

I don't think I'll be able to read that I really hope Science Diet is safe since that's one of the ones recommended and what we chose to switch to!
