Metformin?
my dr. wants me to start Metformin, anyone take it? what side effects did you have?

i was on 2000mg of metformin er. I took 1000mg 2x a day. I got preg twice (dont know if it was the met or the clomid) mc one (had nothing to do with taking met) and im preg again.
It does a number on ur belly... try to stay away from carbs.
I heard the metformin ER is a bit milder on ur tummy than the reg met. i never tried the reg one but the ER was pretty tough when i ate something i wasnt supposed to.

Im on 1000mg a day on the Met. I havent gotten any side effects at all.

I was on 1500mg per day. In the beggining I got diarrhea a few times, but that stopped after about 2 weeks, no matter what I ate.

I had a very difficult time in the beginning with Met. I had to stop taking the 1500mgs a day and start with 500, then 1000 then up to 1500 because I was so sick from it. Extreame nausea and also it messed up my stomach big time if I ate any carbs or sugar. Once my body regulated to it, I was fine.

i am on 1500 mg of metformin- at first I was pretty constipated.. although that is supposedly the opposite of what is supposed to happen..  other than that- no real side effects other than losing weight w/ the help of weight watchers (12 pounds in 2 months)

thanks ladies for the info. i have a bad stomach to begin with so i have some times in the bathroom to look forward to. i will just keep thinking once im pregnant it will all be worth it.

I have a bad stomach to begin with (baseline IBS). The metformin really wreaked HAVOC on my stomach. I was running to the bathroom in every public place you could think of! Finally I stopped eating/drinking ANYTHING if i knew I was going to be leaving the house within the hour and would not have access to a restroom. Nothing helped. I was taking 1500mg - tapered back down to 1000mg, and then 500mg - finally stopped it completely for 2 weeks. I restarted it 2 wks ago as we were planning an IUI cycle and my stomach isn't great but it isn't as BAD as it was... I had gest diabetes with my 1st preg so OB would like me to remain on the metformin during my preg - due to the havoc it is wreaking on my stomach I am DONE as soon as I am preg. I will try to stick it out for what is worth to my fertility but my RE agreed that the side affects outweigh the effectiveness...

Bad Stomach issues... They thought I was boarderling PCOS, but I only took the metformin for a week... and I stopped I couldn't handle it anymore...
