Italian Cruise
Has anyone ever gone on one or know anyone that has gone on one?
I am particularly interested in a cruise that only makes stops in Italy.
I have done some research and found Royal Carribbean, Princess and Celebrity makes only 3 stops in Italy and then goes elsewhere (Greece, Turkey, Barcelona, etc).
Any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated! TIA!

Re: Italian Cruise
i haven't cruised around italy but i spent 3 weeks there (& it's beautiful!) would you ever consider staying there instead of cruising? the reason why i ask this is b/c there is so much to see and experience there....imo, i don't think you will get enough time there to see everything if you cruise.....i feel that cruising the smaller caribbean islands are fine but to cruise a place like italy where there is just sooo much history, etc...i wouldn't recommend it....but again, this is just my opinion....when we were there...we were up early and were out til very late b/c there's so much to see....hth a little!

Yes I totally agree with you. I have been to Italy already (all the big cities) but was hoping to go with DH and see some shore towns, etc via a cruise. However DH has never been there so he is skeptical that a cruise is the way to go so we are still up in the air. If we did cruise then we would fly into Rome and spend a few days there. But yes I agree this may not be the way to go but I am still researching!

Re: Italian Cruise
we did the 12-day carnival cruise in summer of 07- it stops in mostly italy and then cannes, and barcelona too- it was incredible.
we have done the bus tours before and I really loved this way soooo much more- you see all the essentials without the pack up and go and wasting so much time on the bus
if you have any questions let me know.

what are the main parts that he would like to see....we traveled mostly by train (we also flew from sicily to venice...but trained everywhere else!)
as you know, sitting by a fountain or hanging out in a square at night is just beautiful! to me, i wouldn't want to leave to get back on the boat!!!LOL!! and i do love to cruise too!! traveling by train was simple---did you travel by train the last time you went? again jmo, but i feel that you have to be on the cruise ship's schedule...if you don't cruise, you can do things at your leisure (we did everything on our own when we went..no tours like perillo, etc) it was nice to do and be where we wanted when we wanted...but you already know that since you have been there!!! what about the food? you are paying for it on the cruise right? but don't you want to eat locally too? and enjoy the different restaraunts?
i look at it like this: it's not everyday/year that i get to go to italy- so when i am there i want to be there as much as i can!!! good luck with your decision and in all honesty..it will be beautiful which ever way you choose to travel!!!

Yes I totally agree with you on all fronts. A cruise sounds so easy and so inviting but I dont think we will get to see/do as much as we would via train. I am just bummed out about having to plan all this and like I said the cruise sounds so easy. I went backpacking a few times in Europe and it seemed so easy to plan but now it just seems so hard! I dont remember having to look up train schedules and stuff - how did I operate??? we didnt even have a laptop with us! LOL!
