Milan, Italy

Mr parents are going to Milan in September and my sister and I want to pay for their hotel as thei anniversary gift. I searched on expedia and there are so many outskirt areas and I don't know one from another. All of the hotels in the center are well over $200 a night and I know my sister will not agree to that. I think I can convince her to do more in the $150 a night range. Any suggestions of hotels or even areas I should be looking at? I know my parents would like to be able to use public transportation, not taxis. So areas too much on the outskirts will not work for them.

I can't help with Milan, but I strongly suggest you go onto TripAdvisor to the Milan forum and post your question there. Or search hotels in Milan on TripAdvisor and narrow down by area and rates. That website is great for planning trips!

Re: Milan, Italy

this hotel has become my home away from home in Milan

it's reasonably priced and the location is great. the continental breakfast is delicious and they make GREAT cappucini in the moring!!!! I don't believe it has to many plush amenties (no gym/pool) but the lobby is very nice and there is a bar.

it's an easy 10 minute walk to the Duomo and the Galleria...and from there only a few more minutes to La Scala. it's a bit longer, but very interesting walk to the hip Navigli district...great night life there!

the yellow subway line is 2 blocks away, and the red is easily walked to (Duomo station). there is also a trolly line right down the street.

it has a parking garage if your parents are renting a car (not advised for their time IN Milan, but if they are driving the countryside and need to stash it, it's great)

Milan is a business city, so you don't find too many cheapie hotels that are in prime area.

I am actually staying there next month. I can't wait!!!!

not sure what your parents want to see there, but they should look up events at La Scala and also try to book a visit to the Last Supper as soon as possible.

also, there are buses that take you from Milan across the border to Switzerland, where there are outlets for every designer you can imagine. it puts woodbury common to shame!! Chat Icon

Milano is my heart. let me know if you have any other questions or whatever.

ETA: since Milan is such a business minded city, you will find the rate LOWER on the weekends, so factor that in to your equation.

when we go in may, we are paying 80 euros for 2 nights, and then 140 for the third...so it kinda evens out in the end.

Re: Milan, Italy

Thank you so mcuh for the great details. My dad was born and raised in Milan. So he's somewhat familiar with the area, though he hasn't been there in years. They're going mostly for business reasons- we have an apartment there that they are thinking of selling. They usually stay there, but they would have to get a cleaning crew in there, so they figured it would probably be easier to stay in a hotel.

that's a very nice hotel. my husband has stayed there before. but the link was for the BW Hotel Ascot.

how much are they selling the apt for? Chat Icon do you know what area it's in? if they are looking to stay near to were the apt is, it would be best to search that way.

I am jealous of your dad...is he Inter or AC? Chat Icon Chat Icon
