A question about IUI's

I was just reading MaMaTeenie's post about stating IUI's and I have a few questions.....

If I am able to get pregnant on my own (just can't hold onto them for long), what would be the benefits of having an IUI verse trying on my own (I do only have one working tube though)

Also, I think my hubby would die if he had to give a sample in the office and we live all the way out east (about 1 1/2 hours from the Woodbury office). There wouldn't be enough time to get a 'fresh' sample there, right?

Yikes...I never thought about that until now. Chat Icon

Re: A question about IUI's

I think that would be too far for him to get a sample to the woodbury office... but they do have a private room for him to use.

Not sure about IUIs helping you vs trying on your own- might be more of an issue re: some type of medication to help you out .

I would try & take it once step at a time!

Re: A question about IUI's

I too can get PG, but not keep the pregnancy, we have found some issues which we will be dealing with also, but I think the dr's point of IUI's is to be proactive and help speed up the process of getting PG. (knowing how impatient we are about TTC) I am going to talk to him on Friday so I will let you know what he says. As of today I am thinking I may do the meds and triggers but BD on our own for a month or 2.....we'll see I guess i'll be better able to decide after I talk to Dr B.

Good Luck

Re: A question about IUI's

Thanks! I would love to hear what Dr. B tells you on Friday (I go to him as well!)

I didn't even know you can do the meds and trigger and then BD on your own....very interesting! My husband would definitely choose that option if it is given to us!

Thanks ladies!

i see Dr. B too and this is what we did our first IUI cycle..

he did all the meds plus the trigger.. and told us when to BD.. everything was so easy .. it didnt work cause my lining wasnt thick..

we would have done it again this month but because of my lining issue we are doing the full IUI cycle.

good luck!

Thanks! Can I ask you....how many times did you have to go to his office this past time? Do you do the stim drugs and the trigger at home or does he have to do them? I live all the way out East and wonder how often I would have to go in to Woodbury (not that I would mind....he is worth the 1 1/2 hour trip - for sure!!)

for doing the IUI's with no insemination or injections..
is really easy! i went in only 2x.. once for the baseline bloodwork and sono..
then again to check the follies.. and mine were okay to trigger that night.
then BD on your own, and wait the 2 weeks to take a HPT..

so the trigger shot would get mailed to your house! which i love! you dont even have to worry about that.

i know how torn you must be about driving that far.. but dr. braverman is amazing..
i actually have a real IUI on sat.. and he is opening the office just for me to do it.. i was so beyond amazed

Thank you for explaining the procedure to me, it doesn't sound bad at all! I agree, Dr. B is amazing and I would drive 5 hours to see him so I shouldn't complain about the 1 1/2 hour commute. Good luck on Saturday....I will be thinking of you!
