How does the RE determine the quality of eggs?
Is it a special test or is it indicated through hormone levels? I was just wondering....I feel like after the last 2 unsuccessful IUI's my mind is running rapid with possible reasons.

Lots of factors. Initially it's your blood tests, fsh, estrogen..etc. Then it's your age. Actually age is the biggest factor in telling what the quality will be. The older, most likely lower quality eggs.

Day 3 FSH levels can be an indicator.

Re: How does the RE determine the quality of eggs?
I don't think there is any one "conclusive" test to determine egg quality.
As Carolyn and Susan said said, age and CD 3 FSH is an indicator. I am 28 and the highest mine has been is 11.4 and the lowest 8. My RE told me that while it is on the higher side of normal, it is not abnormal, so he is not concerned based solely on that number. But, high FSH can indicate poor egg quality.
My RE does think that I likely have egg quality issues. I think in part because of process of elmination of other potential problems that I do not have. Also, the genetic testing from the m/c indicated a problem with the egg. While that could happen to anyone (a random bad egg), given my history of, it points to the likelihood of egg quality issues.
Sorry for rambling and I'm not really sure if I answered your question!

Re: How does the RE determine the quality of eggs?
After my first IVF you could actually see the fragmentation in the embryos. After going on Metformin for 3 months, combined with diet, exercise, vitamins, yoga and acupuncture - my embryos for IVF#2 were amazingly different and improved...you could actually see the difference. And that's the cycle that worked! Good luck

Then of course there is PGD or CGH testing that can be done directly on the embryo's to know if they are good or not. But, that costs extra money and time.
