Posting this again from a few weeks ago...
because I got no responses the first time
My kids have been asking to do an easter egg hunt before the break. I caved and said sure, but now I don't know how to implement it. I want to make it educational with clues, etc. Anyone have any ideas?

The teacher who I'm a leave replacement just hid them and they each got two. So she didn't go the educational route.
Maybe you can write numbers on them, have them count off and some only get odd numbers and some only even? Or you could write letters on the eggs and have them find an upper case and lower case letter that are the same? Like if you find a J egg, you have to look for the j egg.

Well I have two periods for math. So I break my class into 4 teams. Each team has a different colored egg. Inside about 10 eggs are math facts- various different types. So I hide about 40 eggs. I then have the group find only their colored eggs- solve the math facts and get the prize. WOoO hOoO!

Wow this sound pretty spectacular for differentiated instruction! Thanks, I think I will use this idea!

Thanks for the idea, that sounds really cute- but I have middle schoolers so that doesn't seem quite challenging enough.
SOOOO CUTE for a younger grade though!

Sorry, I'm teaching Kindergarten right now, so that's the mentality I'm in!

How about incorporating a quiz-type game into it?
Have them answer a bunch of questions and however many they get right is however many eggs they can find?
First one with their hand up gets to answer... The prize in each egg can be extra points on a quiz, or a homework pass, etc.

Hmm thanks for the suggestion!
I still have not come up with a definite plan yet, I think I am going to combine ideas from all directions
Only problem I can see happening with this one is, I have some very low functioning kids and they are not guaranteed to get answers right. If I gave them something easy, they would know that they were getting something much easier than everyone else. OR - I have one student who would purposely get everything wrong to "test" me to see if I really wouldn't let him do the hunt (since the number right u get is the number of eggs u find) and I wouldn't have the heart to let him just sit there I know that may sound weird for a kid to do that- but some of my students have emotional issues and really bad low self esteem Sorry to go into this whole story, lol.
Again, thank you so much for the idea!!!!!!
