An update on me..
I met with Dr. Brenner this past Wed and we discussed my options. He is as nice as them come and I'm glad he's my doc.
He was very upfront about my age/weight issues, so we decided on two more cycles of IUI's before we go on to IVF, which of course we all hope we don't have to pursue. This is mainly because I need one more IUI cycle before I can apply for the grant. He said do two since he changed me from the Follistim to the Menopur intra muscular, 3 vials daily. Who knew I'd be an expert mixologist!!
BTW..does anybody know what the difference is in the meds? I looked online all day Saturday for the difference between Follistim and Menopur, but couldn't find a definitive explanation.
He's encouraged since I was able to get pg twice (one DS, one chemical) so I'm hoping and praying that this cycle is it!!

I'm not sure what the difference is in the meds, I do know that sometimes they are used in conjunction so one may have some suppresant in it. I do, however, want to wish you lots and lots of luck!!

Re: An update on me..
Menopur has LH and FSH, the other is juts FSH. HTH and GL!!!
Just FYI: When I was on Menopur I aslo added Ganirelex at the end to keep all the follies from O'ing too soon (which can happen due to the LH).

This is what I was told too. My first cycle they had me on menopur and it wasn't a great cycle... my 2nd cycle was gonal-f and repronex and it made a world of difference. People's bodies respond better to certain meds- so hopefully your body will like the new one better!

Would you happen to know why one has LH and one doesn't. Now I'm more confused than ever.

That I could not tell you!! But like Shannon said, some people respond better to one drug or the other. For me, it was about the same but my progesterone level was better with the Menopur. As fas as I understand the LH CAN help with getting more follies for those that didn't respond well to Gonal-F/Follistim. So, I *guess* that would be the why they add it? But wasn't the case for me.

Wouldn't the BW tell them that I would O earlier than normal? Isn't that the primary reason we go for bloodwork in the first place?

Re: An update on me..
I can only speak from my own experience, and I'm not sure how common it is. When I did my last IVF cycle, I had a ton of follies (the one dr. said it looked like a flower full of petals). I went in for just bloodwork the day before my retrieval (the night after I triggered w/ lupron). My levels did something really screwy- and they had me come in early before my retrieval to do a sono, but said that 'everything was fine'. When Dr. K walked in the room he told me that they thought my eggs may have released on their own given my levels- and that was WITH taking ganirelix! I freaked out--- thankfully they hadn't or my whole cycle would've been a bust... but they still aren't sure why that happened.

Re: An update on me..
Do you have PCOS? I'm not sure if you do, but I had much better stimming cycles when I didn't use Menopur because people with PCOS have elevated LH to begin with, which can HINDER stimulation.

It's a combo of the size of the follies and B/W. If that answers your question...not sure...

Ok, I have been thinking about this one, as it pertains to me anyway. My LH starts out elevated but never gets high enough to mature a lead follie and/or release an egg because of the imbalance of the hormones (think thermostat). So, by adding LH (via Menopur) it allows my body to complete the process of maturing/releasing eggs. With FSH alone, I was making follies but fewer matured, I believe due to the fact that my LH never caught up to the E2/FSH levels. So, in essence, my body STOPPED trying to create LH and just let the Menopur take over and it responded better. But again, that is just how my body responded. But as I thought about what Lauren said, after much I think I figured it out!

You know what, that's exactly what's been happening to me. I was triggering later and later because of this. The NP mentioned this to me with my last two cycles and she said it was probably because I wasn't absorbing the meds like I should be which is why last time mid cycle they switched me to intramuscular.
