Not really "travel" related...Alaska--photos

My daughter lives in North Pole Ak and she took a trip down to Anchorage this past weekend.

As I'm sure you're all aware, I love sharing pictures. Chat Icon

Just wanted to share some pictures of things she saw along the way. It's so beautiful there...but look at all that snow!

Re: Not really "travel" related...Alaska--photos

Definitely Anchorage, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan on the cruise ship.
We want to go somewhere before it leaves as well (maybe for a couple of days) but have no clue where.
Do you have any suggestions?
Or any places to avoid?

I've only been there once and it was only 5 days. But we did go on a tour through Denali National Park. I highly recommend it. The tour was about 6 hrs in a bus. They stop at different points along the way so you can take pictures, stretch your legs and have a bite to it. Denali it amazing and worth the trip if you have the time.

I will ask my daughter for other recommendations and let you know what she comes back with.

No problem.

I heard back from my daughter here is what she wrote:

I take it they will go through southeast. They should stop in Cooper Landing if it is during the summer season. They have some of the worlds best fishing and it is really pretty. In girdwood (prettty close to Cooper Landing) is a small wildlife rehab that has bison, moose, bears and the like that are pretty close and there is a glacier nearby. Also, Seward is not far and worth the trip and so is Homer if they are going to be near that area. Cooper Landing and everything is also close to Chugach Park which has lots of hiking and outdoorsy type things. Tell them to keep in mind that in that area there are LOTS of bears so they should be a bit cautious hiking and stuff if they are not familiar with bear safety. I have never been to Homer or Seward, but they are tourist type places and have lots of safer activities. There are day cruises for wildlife sightseeing and Seward has a sealife center, kind of like an aquarium. Anchorage has the Alaska Zoo, tell them to expect something similar to a petting zoo, with a sprinkling of animals, but it is cheap and definately worth the 2 hours it takes to walk around.

I guess these are few things to look into. Cooper Landing is about 100 miles from Anchorage and Sweard is a little more...about 120 miles.

Definitely NOT! There is nothing there but a Christmas Shop that open all year
Chat Icon Chat Icon It's cute...but with nothing else going on in the town..not worth the trip. There isn't much to see in Fairbanks either. ETS: It's also about a 5-6 hr drive from Anchorage.

Good to know lol, I thought it might be cute but certainly not worth it for one store.

I agree! We did Denali National Park as part of our pre-cruise tour! It was breath taking and so worth the trip.

We also visited Fairbanks and Anchorage. We went on the Wilderness Express Glass Ceiling train ride which was amazing!
