Insurance
Anyone know if Empire BCBS HMO covers infertility? I know Dr. Braverman and Rosenfeld are both in my network, but do I need to look further into what they actually cover?
I am seeing Braverman on the 16th for the first time and guess he'll be starting testing and what not to see how to keep me from having miscarriages.......not sure what i'd have to ask the insurance co andyone have experience with this?

Re: Insurance
Call and ask about your infertility benefits. It may be a $$ amt, it may be testing, it may be meds and IUI's but not IVF or it may be certain # of IVF's or it may be the whole kit and caboodle!! Best to know before you go into your conuslt!

Re: Insurance
I would just call your insurance company and ask for their complete schedule of benefits.
Or you can ask about infertility coverage and recurrent pregnancy loss coverage... make sure you get a printed sheet.
Even if others have the same insurance as you, the coverage depends on your employer.

Re: Insurance
I do not know how Dr. Braverman's office works but when I made my first appointment at RSofNY, they took my insurance information and when I went for my first visit THEY told me what my insurance covered. I never spoke to my insurance company.

Re: Insurance
I met with Braverman a few weeks ago and when I got there they had already contacted my insurance company to see what I had covered (which I already knew the answers to this). I didn't go with him and stayed with Cornell, but I thought he was great.

Re: Insurance
Thanks ladies, I called and got left on hold so I sent them an e-mail and this is there reply.
Your policy does not cover in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. You are, however, covered for medical and surgical procedures such as artificial insemination, intrauterine insemination and dilation and curettage (D&C) including any required inpatient or outpatient hospital care that would correct malformation, disease or dysfunction resulting in infertility based on a New York State Mandate. You are also covered for services in relation to diagnostic tests and procedures necessary to determine infertility, or in connection with any surgical or medical procedures to diagnose or treat infertility. The diagnostic tests and procedures covered are: blood tests, endometrial biopsy, hysterosalpingogram, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, post-coital tests, semen analysis, sono-hysterogram, testis biopsy, ultrasound and other medically necessary diagnostic test and procedures unless excluded by law.Thank you for contacting empireblue.com. We are pleased we could be of service. If you require any additional assistance, please contact us at empireblue.com or call your Service Center at (800) 453-0113, from 8:30am - 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
Does that cover what I need to know?

I would call and speak to someone. I have this insurance. While the basic part of this insurance does not cover IVF, if you call and ask about your specific plan, your company may have purchased a rider for IVF, which in my case they did.

I don't have BCBS, but this is exactly what my insurance covers. Basically, it's all dr. visits (including RE), testing, exams and drugs related to IF as well as unlimited IUIs - no IVF coverage. I do need pre-authorization for the drugs, you should check if you do.

Re: Insurance
I have BCBS (federal) and that's what mine covered - unlimited for diagnostic, though I didn't get any coverage for the IUI procedure itself, or IVF.
I did get full coverage for my meds though.

Re: Insurance
it really depends on what the company sponsoring the plan bought in to... we have BCBS and get 5k max lifetime for infertility treatment but the diagnosis (sonos, lab work, etc) is all included.
