Ladies, can anyone help?

I was bleeding again today. I'm 13weeks. I went to have an ultrasound done. The baby looks great, but the doctor believes he sees a strip of blood behind the placenta? Has anyone heard of this? I'm really scared because he said it puts me in a higher risk for miscarriage. Chat Icon Please can anyone help? I can't believe this. I'm really scared ladies!

Did you ASK him what this meant? What this was???
Is it a blood clot behind the placenta?

Blood behind the placenta could indicate a possible rupture of the placenta there....

Sometimes when the placenta forms a small amount of placental blood accumulates behind the placenta as well..and often means nothing to the outcome of the pregnancy.

Both scenarios DO NOT mean you will M/C this late into the PG.

I hope your Dr explained it to you in more detail. If he didnt, please ask to ease your mind!

Re: Ladies, can anyone help?

I think you should call your dr and ask him, what is causing this and what it is. I wouldnt have left the office until I knew what was going on. Chat Icon that everything is OK

He just said that around this time the placenta is attaching and could cause this.

Did you do some online research to calm your nerves maybe?

Im so sorry your going through this, but I feel bad your asking for help here, when really what can we do for you?

If your Dr told you what it causing it?

I think if you are needing more reassurance and are not sure whats going on, you should call your DR ASAP and ask them to calmly explain in more detail to you.

Online info says nothing but bad things.

I also only asked this on here because I thought that maybe someone had gone through this.

Re: Ladies, can anyone help?

I did a little research for you on this...most things point to that if you are 20 weeks or more, and the blood behind the placenta is severe, THEN it could mean a very increased risk of a miscarriage. But at 13 weeks, with what is probably not as much (or else your doc would have prob reacted much more concerned), it says it is common and that blood is usually reabsorbed...here is one thing i found..good luck and breath deep! I know its scary, but I think you will be ok!!

"If the area of bleeding is small, this is not thought to increase your risk of miscarriage. The blood should gradually be absorbed and the baby will continue to grow and develop normally. If the area of bleeding is large, there is however an increased chance of miscarriage. You will probably be offered a further scan in a week or so, to make sure the pregnancy is continuing normally"

Re: Ladies, can anyone help?

one more thing i found..

When the pregnancy implants into the uterus and the placenta grows across the uterine wall, a small collection of blood can develop behind the placenta. If the collection stays behind the placenta, you won't see any bleeding. If it escapes through the cervix, you will notice vaginal bleeding. In either case, the pregnancy is normal. There is not an increased risk of miscarriage. If you do not have any symptoms, another ultrasound would not be necessary.

Thank you so much! Chat Icon

I honestly don't know the size of it. It was a fairly large strip, but very thin. He believes it was blood, but I'm going for another ultrasound to have it looked at better. I just wish they would call me back already! Chat Icon
