if so, how do they do it without a seam/stitch line showing?

the only way I can visualize it is if they stitched the original hem back on right on top of the stitch line that already exists.

I don't know how exactly they do it but I don't like it because after I wash my jeans, it creases where they reattached the hem & it looks funny.

I have this done every time I buy jeans. I'm a shrimp (4'11) so there is no other alternative.. They always come out great. You would never know they had been reattached. Find a good seamstress and the jeans should be fine.

Re: has anyone gotten jeans hemmed and kept the original hem?

I just asked that question at the tailors the other day and they said that they couldn't do it. I was so mad...because I know there has to be a way that it can be done...see the posts above mine...

I just recently bought an overpriced pair of jeans and I really liked the look of the hem on the jeans...but, I needed them fixed right away...so, I let them do it anyway...

I hate that jeans are soooooooooooooooo long...we are not all 6'5" tall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was skeptical at first, but yes, it can be done, and you can't tell at all! I don't know how they do it, and my mom & grandmother who sew all the time couldn't even figure it out, but they do!

tell me about it! up until about 5 yrs ago, I NEVER needed any kind of pants hemmed! I am 5'7" and every pair of jeans or pants I buy are several inches too long. and the "short" versions are usually too short Chat Icon

I just had a pair of jeans hemmed and the seamstress cut the jeans and madea new hem, using the same color thread to make the new hem, so it looks like they were made that length, instead of me having to cut 6 inches off!!vChat Icon

i have it done almost every time i buy a pair of jeans. I believe they cut the jeans right above the seam, they then take off as much as they need too and then resew the hem back on.
My regular dry cleaners does it. Lone Star Jeans will also do it, even if you didn't buy the jeans there.

I do it all of the time. There is a tailor in Massapequa that does a great job. It's on 107 and of course the name is escaping me right now.

I spend alot of $ on my jeans and always get original hems.
If you need a great tailor in Herald Square, let me know. It's right inside Daffy's.

I do it all the time. I have no idea how, but it looks great! Go to the place where you buy your jeans and ask them to recommend a place.

Re: has anyone gotten jeans hemmed and kept the original hem?

The first time I had them hemmed that way was actually at Roosevelt Field, the seamstress downstairs did them for me in a half hour and they look awesome!!!! Like they were made that way......
