Is it normal for my puppy to poop so much??

I have a 4.5 month old boxer pup who is about 40ish lbs and he poops AT LEAST 6x a day. Is this normal??? I don't think we are overfeeding him... we give him 1cup dry 3tbsp wet twice a day. Is this normal???TIA!

i think mine went 3x a day....not sure what the norm is but i would think that as long as it was normal poop-that the # of times wouldn't matter....btw, that is the cutest face!!

Is it normal poops? or soft and
diarrhea?? That does seem like alot.. Just all the vet and ask.. i am sure its ok..

What are you feeding your dog?

It may be a little much, but nothing crazy. Misty is 60 pounds and we feed her 1 cup twice a day. She poops 2/3 times a day.

ETA: I just realized he's a puppy and you are probably feeding him puppy food. That would explain the extra poops.

That sounds like a lot of poop ... and not a lot food for a puppy.

What kinds of food are you feeding?

Not to be gross, but are these full sized poops? Or does he do most of his poop and then finish it up later? Puppies are easiliy distracted when they are doing their business, so if he doesn't finish up, he may need to poop again a short while later.

Puppy food is also higher in fat, so that does make them poop more. They will tend to poop after each meal, and often in the AM when they first wake up. Also if his food is full of fillers, that could also make him need to poop more.

when we first got our puppy she went about 3 or 4 times a day, and we just couldn't figure out where it was all coming from, lol . But now that she's older it's much less. I think it's normal for them to go a lot when they're young, but 6 times a day does seem like a lot. You might want to ask your vet if your feeding him too much. good luck!

My dog did that too when she was a puppy, and now it's about 3x a day. I think it might have something to do with my dog eating her food so quickly (if you saw her with food you'd think she's never eaten a day in her life!) and it not being properly broken down and digested (which is why I think she eats her poop too ). HTH!

Char did this when she was a pup a lot -- it was like she went smaller amounts A LOT more often in the beginning until she got more control or grew a little more. Once she got older, she went less often and did a little more in her poop and now she just goes twice a day.
