Aruba or a Cruise?

As most of you might know my sister, bil and niece live in Aruba. My parents and many other family members go frequently and have timeshares there. The big time they go is late Sept.

My parents have a 3 bedroom condo and we would be able to stay for free. Only paying for airfare.

But we already have a cruise booked for Nov for our 5th Anniversary. Just DH and I.

I am so torn. I really want to see where my sister lives and go with everyone. Not to mention we will save a ton of money.

Another problem I have is that I am afraid to fly and the 5 hr flight to Aruba scares the heck out of meChat Icon

You can only do one? If I could only do one I would see my sister and take something for the flight to make me less scared.

I would try and swing both though if I could.

DH owns his own business and can't take off for both trips.

Re: Aruba or a Cruise?

It's seriously not a bad flight. DH and I were just there last week and loved it. I'm not as big a fan of cruising b/c I find it too exhausting... you have to get up early to get off the island and back on the ship at a certain time for dinner. Aruba is less than 5 hours. I think it's a little over 4 hours... get a DVD player and watch some movies and b4 you know it you're there then you can relax, see the family and the restaurants are great! Plus, you can't beat the weather... always sunny and in the 80's

I'd go to Aruba. There you can see your family, stay for free and you have the added bonus of babysitters if you want to go out with just DH.

I am assuming you don't get to see your sister and her family often, so I would go to Aruba. Especially if it is not going to cost much.

Is there another time your DH can take off so you can plan a cruise?

I would go to Aruba. I'd be bummed that I'd miss out on time alone with my DH, but I'd be sooo happy to see sister and her family!

If you could get the money back for the cruise, I would choose Aruba.

ETA (because the phone rang while I was typing) - I've done both, cruises and Aruba, and I enjoyed Aruba a lot more.

Aruba! But I'm biased because I love it there and am not into cruising for the same reasons the pp mentioned. We love Aruba because you can just lay out on the beach all day or do more touristy/sightseeing stuff. It's a good mix.

The flight is definitely closer to 4 hours. Don't forget you're in the air for less time than the departure/arrival times make it look like. I highly recommend xanax or something similar. I take it when we get to the airport and it really helps a lot!

Whatever you decide, I'm sure you will have a great time!! Chat Icon Chat Icon
