Re: going to St. Martin in April
St. Martin is one of my favorite islands. I cannot wait to go back one day!
You have to go to Cherrie's. It is an outdoor bar with live music. Also you can take a ferry to either Anguilla or St. Barts for the day. Either island is only 45 mins away. Well worth it. DH and I went to St. Barts for the day and had an amazing time!

Re: going to St. Martin in April
I highly suggest taking a day tour w/ BernardsTours.Com.It's $35pp includes local rum/beer,soda & water. They take you through St.Martin/St. Marteen give you history of the islands, bring you to all the hotspots like Maho beach(famous for the low flying planes)The caves(gorgeous hike & snorkel),shopping stops and sooo much more.DH and I went in Nov. and had the best time.....

Re: going to St. Martin in April
I'm also going to recommend Cheri's cafe in Maho. Out of all the restaurants I ate at in St. Maarten this is the only one I would recommend.
We did a day trips to Anguilla and St. Barts which was great. Don't forget to visit Orient Beach
Are you renting a car? If so, one tip is to rent from the French side. The license plates on the Dutch side all have a big R on the license plates. I think if you rent on French side, you get a regular license plate. We had a Dutch side rental and did not have any problems. Just don't leave anything in your car-even in the trunk.
The island is safe but I happened to witness some petty theft. Of course I said something and my husband was ready to kill me. I'm a New Yorker what did he expect.
