Is there any way to train a yapper??

My Yorkie is a barker - I know they are barkers by nature .......but she is out of control !! Is there anything I can do to try to train her ??

I try to distract her when someone comes to/leaves the house b/c she goes insane !! So I tell her to go to her bed and sit (which she does) and then I can usually get her to calm down for a minute - but then she starts up again !!

She barks if we're on the couch and she wants to play, she barks if I'm standing in the kitchen and she wants attention .........she barks if I'm on the bed and she wants to come up -
She just barks and barks and does NOT give up !!!!

Any suggestions would be so very appreciated !!

I have trained my dog since day 1not to yap.. The minute the bell rings she looks at me.. If I run up she barks, If I sit there and stay calm she doesnt not.. Then I slowly walk to the door.. I sware I read and watchedd the dog whisperer and learned this.. I will not answer the door unless she is calm.. I also make a certain noise like ch ch loud and that really works.. I do not even have to say a word just ch ch.. Now if I were you I would try the can of pennies.. or water spray.. with the sound of your choice.. you could say "hey" or use ch ch at the same time.. Then possibly you do not have to use the spray or the cans just the sound of your voice.. Your dog is yappng probably to alarm you or out of anxiety.. Its really important to stay calm and assertive... Good luck.. You can do this be consistant..

Unfortunately, the water spray and the can of pennies never bothered her .......

My DH bought that collar w/ the citronella spray and THAT didn't bother her either ........I swear, NOTHING phases this dog, she is the most strong willed creature EVER !!

I guess I will try again ..........and remember to keep myself calm and not want to kill her !!
