Those TTC with Metformin...
I started Metformin 2 weeks ago and I am now up to 1000mg a day taken at night... This week I started noticing very significant muscle pain - it first started in my upper arms almost like I had lifted something too heavy (I truly didn't) and it has now moved into my right hip. The pain is pretty bad - in fact I took 2 Aleve last nigh just to take the edge off thinking it is an inflamation of some sort...
I emailed with my RE to ask her if muscle pain/weakness is a side affect of the medication and her response was "if it is - never heard of it before" --> not really an answer...
I really wasn't questioning the medicine as the cause of this until DH suggested "maybe it's the new meds"...
Just wondering if ANYONE has experienced anything like this from metformin?
If the pain continues into next week I am going to make a follow-up appt with the rheumatologist that i saw back in November for a poss immune issue - everything came back normal with blood work and we were cleared to proceed with our efforts TTC but this is just weird...
Sorry for being so long-winded

Re: Those TTC with Metformin...
I don't know who your RE is, but there is a very serious condition called Lactic Acidosis that can be a side effect of Metformin and yes it can include muscle pain. But don't panic...I have had bouts of muscle pain while on Metformin and DID NOT have Lactic Acidosis. I would f/u with your primary if that is the answer you got from the RE!!

Re: Those TTC with Metformin...
Good answer Shawnna! I was going to mention the same thing. Lactic acidosis is very rare and from what I remember reading, the pain is mostly in the calf.
I know that when I'm a week before AF, my muscles hurt like there's no tomorrow. They get so tense and sore that even touching my shoulders, arms, calf feel like I'm being stabbed. I'm convinced it's due to my progesterone levels being higher at that part of the cycle. Once I get AF, all pain goes away. So maybe the metformin already started to regulate things and your hormones are settling back to normal.
