baby shampoo okay to use

I've run out of dog shampoo and my little yorkie needs a bath desperately! He doesn't have sensitive skin so would ilt be okay to use the baby shampoo I have?

Re: baby shampoo okay to use

My breeder told me to use baby shampoo. That's what I wash my dog with if I need to.

Ty. For some reason my little yorkie boy gets so icky so quick after he is groomed. Typical boy, lol. My female dog is always clean and grooming herself.

I used baby shampoo as well and my Yorkie boy is a pig too - he is always dirty.

It's actually not recommended for dogs. There are chemicals in there that aren't good for them. especially if they lick themselves and you didn't get it all out. There are some nice smelling doggie shampoos out there. some even have baby scent. I use that on my little dachshund so I can pretend he's still a baby haha.

These articles say baby shampoos are fine....It seems that dog shampoo is your best bet but in a bind it's ok...at least that's what these articles say!

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree with alot of issues. I was a dog groomer and this was what I was taught. Sure, if you're in an absolute bind, you're better off using that instead of regular shampoo, but you really need to be using doggie shampoo. it's better for their skin and fur too

I typically use the dog shampoo but yesterday I was in a bind and had to.

if you're in a bind, that's absolutely fine, it's just not recommended on a monthly basis.

you may have been fine, but it's still not good for them. you don't really know what's going on in their skin and fur.

Re: baby shampoo okay to use

Human shampoos deplete the dog's natural oils that dog shampoos are designed to protect. Only if there was a serious mess and I couldn't run to the petstore before bathing would I use a human shampoo on a dog. Then the next day I would be sure to buy some to have it in the house.

yup this is exactly what I did I have the dog shampoo on hand, typically I do at all times but in addition to the little dog I have an 80 lb dog so we ran out before I realized there was none left.
