Defrosted BM question
I defrosted some BM last night to give to Noah as I hadn't pumped much in the day. I gave him a bottle at about 3.30 am and noticed he was making faces, so I tasted the milk to see if it was okay..it tasted FOUL and smelled terrible. He drank about an ounce of it and this morning he has spit up a few times, after having more fresh BM. Just to be on the safe side, I threw away all the other bottles of milk that were in the fridge.
Have I poisoned my son? He does seem fine, although totally out of character he is currently having a NAP not in my arms...
what do you think?

Re: Defrosted BM question
And not only did I put him down...I put him into the swinging chair awake...and now he is ASLEEP.
So, I am going to do something daring. Go to the bathroom BY MYSELF!
How are you and your little appendage getting on today?

Re: Defrosted BM question
I fed Alex spoiled breastmilk once... I felt horrible, but other than a little spitting up, she seemed fine

Re: Defrosted BM question
The thing that worries me is that I have a freezer full of breast milk! Does that mean that I have to taste all of it before I feed it to him? I don't think my stomach is that strong!
Its a shame he is not interested in my bosoms...he does not know what he is missing!

Re: Defrosted BM question
you should always freeze BM immediately after pumping it, ie don't keep it in the fridge for 2 days and then freeze it. If you froze it immediately, I can't see why it would be spoiled, maybe you just ate something around that time that didn't agree with you? Lots of things can "flavor" breast milk...

Re: Defrosted BM question
I agree...try again today. Also, how long did you defrost the BM for before using it? You could have eaten something that changed the "taste" or smell. How long has your BM been in the freezer? Are they in good BM bags? I always took my BM bags and placed them in a larger ziplock bag- for extra protection.
