Is it worth it to rent a car? I am staying at Marriott in the high rise area. If so can I rent it from the front desk once I get there for 2-3 days only? We cabbed it last year around the island and I didn't think it was too bad, however this time we're staying longer and also going grocery shopping...is it worth it?

Yep, definitely worth it for 2 or 3 days, especially if you will be doing a lot of grocery shopping. Plus you have more opportunity to see the "off the beaten path" type stuff. Enjoy!

I did it and loved it! We got out wherever we pleased and snorkelled up one side of the island (you can't on the other side).
I highly suggest it. The concierge should be able to arrange a car for you. I also remember gas being not so expensive when I was there, I think.

We rented one the first time we went and didn't really use it.
The second time, we rented one and used it a lot (going to the food store, exploring, going out to dinner, to and from the airport).
We booked through Alamo and got a great rate (we used our Costco membership but, you can use a BJs membership as well).

Thanks a lot girls!
I am thinking we would use it to explore island, lunch, and food shopping-not really dinner because my husband and I will be drinking during dinner.
I think it might be worth it for at least a few day! I never knew I could use Bjs membership..that's awesome

If you go onto the website for BJs and look under travel - they show their rental car deals there. You get a member discount and you usually can get a coupon on top of that.
