BTDT Moms: Csec and Staples
My doc just told me today that they use staples for the csections they perform...anyone have experience with this in reference to the pain, the removal and the way it looks after compared to stitches...just curious...Thanks!

Re: BTDT Moms: Csec and Staples
while i haven't had a c-section - i have had 2 other stomach surgeries (gall bladder removal and ovarian cyst removal) - both were closed with staples.
How they look now years later is great actually...tiny circles where the actual 'staple' part was in and the removal didn't hurt at ALL....
My SIL also just had her staples removed from her c-section and said it was pain free.

Re: BTDT Moms: Csec and Staples
i have never had either, but have removed both. removing stitches involves a little more tugging/pulling, so i would think it would be more painful. staples come out more easily, in my experience.

Re: BTDT Moms: Csec and Staples
With DS I had an emergency c/s and had staples done. The removal of the staples drove me so up the wall (I was VERY sensitive and hated every moment of it.
With DD I requested they sew me up vs. staples because I did not want to deal with that again. The closing up part took longer and I remember lying on the table at that time wondering if it was worth the extra time but that was just because I wanted to be out of the room already and in recovery.
I am going to ask for the sewing again vs. staples just due to the memory of how sensitive I was.
I think most people are okay with them though

Re: BTDT Moms: Csec and Staples
I had staples for my c-section and for me the removal was completely pain-free. Mine were removed 2 days after the c-section while still in the hospital and then they put steri-strips on. Like I said, I barely felt it - I was surprised.
As far as my scar goes- it is virtually invisible and there is certainly no evidence of the staples. However, I rarely scar and when I do it heals very well so this may not be the case for everyone.

Re: BTDT Moms: Csec and Staples
I did not want staples b/c of the severity of my c-section last time (I had atypical swelling). They used stitches internally that dissolve, and outside they used stri-strips. I have had staples though, and the noise is worse then what it feels like.

Re: BTDT Moms: Csec and Staples
I was terrified of having the staples removed, but it really wasn't that bad. I felt some pinching & then I was sore for the rest of the day. Nothing that tylenol & a little relaxation couldn't help.
As far as how it looked, while the staples were in I was incredibly creeped out & wouldn't look at it. For a little while after they came out you could see little dot scars where the staples were. I'm pretty sure those faded a while ago though & now you can't even tell I ever had staples.
