My husband and I really want to go. I just do not know how to begin. Do I get a local travel agent or someone who does tours in Ireland??

if you're going to go with an agent, why not get one that specializes in the country. try sceptre ireland.... my sister used to work there. they have some nice tours. www.sceptretours.com also, their office in lynbrook on sunrise highway... you could stop in too. my sister went on a lot of them as an employee so she could sell their tours and she really enjoyed them, even though Ireland was a place she had been to many many times before working there.
me personally, i like to explore countries on my own, but if you really have no idea where to start, i would go with a travel agent. if anything, they'll send you materials that may give you info. so you can figure out you may want to do and book it on your own... or you can go with them.

We had a package with AerLingus vacations that included air/hotel/car. to travel around Ireland. It's the first time we ever bought a package, and it was a great deal.
If it wasn't so cheap, I would have done all the planning on my own.. Ireland is such a simple country.

Sceptre ireland sells the Aerlingus tours that Melissa is talking about. AerLingus also sells them on their website. They are offering ridiculous prices right now. like $500 flights round trip for the summer.... that is CHEAP for peak season!
ETA: Aer Lingus is Ireland's national airline. They will offer the most flights. Continental flies there too (via Newark only) and Delta also has a few options, but that's it.

I think England is pretty easy to plan, you don't need a travel agent. If you just do London, just get a tour book, and book everything when you get there, if you plan on going out of London, you can go into a tourist office at a train station and get some help there, you can book train tickets online and pick them up at the station to get the best prices.
