Classes Location - What Would You Do?
So - my OB offers classes - the normal ones:
childbirth/lamaze cpr infnant & child baby care basics breastfeeding
BUT - our hospital ALSO offers classes -
childbirth/lamaze new daddy baby care breast feeding infant massage baby signing 101 (WHAT IS THIS???)
the prices are VERY similar, maybe a $5 difference (except with the baby care one - that price difference is 20 bucks)...so it wouldn't be huge...
Would you do classes at the hospital or the OB??? I'm not sure what to do....
I'd THINK breastfeeding would be great to do at the hospital, since i'd THINK that the lactation person who i'd meet after i give birth would teach it...and this way i could feel more comfortable with her...
Thoughts????

I think you should do the one at the hospital because it also includes the daddy class and as you said that is where you are going to be BFing for the first time. Baby signing is you can teach your child sign language before they talk so that when they are hungry they will sign it to you or if they want more or if they want or need something else, so that you can communicate without tryign to guess.

I'd maybe do the ones at the hospital.. but do they also offer infant cpr there? That's one I would definitely want to take...

Re: Classes Location - What Would You Do?
If you really want to do all those classes I would do the hospital ones since it includes a daddy class. You don't need baby signing (that is sign language for babies and you really don't do that until they are a few months old).
The lamaze, bf, daddy and baby care classes will probably be the most helpful.
But the Infant CPR is VERY helpful and you should take that no matter where you go.

Oh noooooooo no no...
i don't want to do ALL of those classes - that was just a list of who offered what...:)
Only classes i'm interested in are:
breastfeeding baby care cpr daddy (maybe - depends on what it entails)...
The hospital also offers a grandparents class! I sent the info to my mom and dad!

How much are the classes? The reason I ask is that honestly you really don't need the BF or the baby care (you can get laugh and learn videos MUCH cheaper and watch them at home on your time) and spend the money of the CPR and daddy class. I used the videos and they were pretty good (and I was clueless to BOTH before b.c I'm an only child and wasn't around children much before.

Re: Classes Location - What Would You Do?
Baby Care: 50 New daddy: 25 Breastfeeding: 30 cpr: 45
these are the ones at the hospital - i'd save $25 by going with the hospital classes.
i'm DEFINITELY going to get the breastfeeding video and the newborn video and see if i feel we need more teachings....

Re: Classes Location - What Would You Do?
I would definitely sign up for the CPR and save the money on the other two unless you feel unprepared. I thought the baby cares video was helpful. The BF one - umm coming from someone who BF for 13 months - honestly a class or video for me personally wasn't very helpful - it seemed so foreign until I was actually BFing DD (then again they brought her to me at 1am - she needed testing before I could feed her) and said go ahead and feed her with NO guidance (I was told the LC wouldn't be in until after 10am the next morning and she didn't see me until 3pm the next day) so it was kind of like being thrown into the deep end and told good luck. Luckily she latched right on.
I think the video is pretty good alone and if you still feel you need help then take the class. The LC at the hospitals should be there if you have questions and I would ask a million questions if you need to - while you are in the hospital rather than waiting until you get home.
