I saw Hustle-n-Flow not too long ago, and I reallly loved the movie.. and that song plays SUCH a huge role in the movie, its has stuck in my mind ever since... DH and I sing it all the time
So I actually got a GREAT KICK out of seeing this song win at the oh-so-stuffy OSCARS 
And hey, at least those guys actually looked EXCITED to WIN!! 
Though they DID have to edit out a lot of the 'real' words during the performance

DH and I thought the same thing, everyone is in tux's and gowns, and they play that song?? Just didnt go right! Thats a song to play at the music awards, not the oscars! JMO.
ETA: I still think it wasnt a great song to play even if it was for a movie being nominated.

DH and I were like W T F when they came on- its the Oscars, not MTV Music Awards, it was VERY out of place, did anyone catch Keanu Reeves face when they showed him right after the performance? His face was classic!!!! It was a shocked face!
and I did hear the word s h i t in the lyrics I was like omg, they just cursed!!!!

IMO I do not think it was appropriate - maybe I would feel differently had I seen the movie but DH and I could not believe what was going on!
