Back from the Torture Chamber (aka 39 week appt)
Each week, they get worse and worse. My internal exam today SUCKED! I think I am still reeling from it, and the exam was a few hours ago. 
The doc had to stop because I was in SO MUCH pain. My cervix is still long, but he said I am dilated probably about 1 to 2cm (up from a fingertip last week). But, because he had to stop, he couldn't say for sure. He did say I probably have another week to go... we shall see.
Ever since the appt, I have been having a lot of cramping-- up front and in my back as well. Wondering if the exam stimulated anything, or I am just THAT much more uncomfortable now.
Anyway, I am ready for this to be over and to join the ranks of the non-pregos again. That's my update.

The end is so tough!
I can't imagine how uncomfortable an internal is at this stage. I had to have one at 27 weeks and that was definately uncomfortable and a little painful. My Dr. told me last week she doesn't do internals

Just as an FYI sometimes internals stimulate labor. Are you in pain or having contractions? With DS I remember the pain of the internal but it went away after about 20 minutes. I went into labor the next day after having zero dialation and zero effacement.

I am having some cramping, I feel in my belly and my back is also hurting me a bit too. I am not exactly sure how to explain it, but it's not debilitating and I did drive home.
I met DH after the appt for lunch, then we had another meeting and I was uncomfortable the whole time.
I am now finally home and have a heating pad on my back and am on the couch. So, I am waiting to see how I feel now that I am relaxing.

Me too!!! I'm so surprised they hurt so much! I had to have one at 32 weeks because of possible pre-term labor and I barely felt a thing!!!
I'm glad my midwives don't do them!

It depends on the Dr. There are 7 Drs. in my practice. My Dr. does not do them because she doesn't want to "disturb" anything. Although she did say if I were to see one of her collegues then she couldn't gaurantee I wouldn't have one. Thankfully I only have 2 appointments left, both with my Dr.

I've had to have them done occasionally because of my shortening cervix, but in the earlier weeks, they didn't hurt.
But when I had my false alarm on Saturday in the hospital, holy $h!t did they hurt, and I had to get checked 3 times. I was about 2-3cm's..supposedly the more ripe your cervix gets, the more it hurts 
And they do cause some cramping afterwards, but the fact that your back is hurting could possibly mean you're starting to contract. Don't get too excited because I have been having cramps and back pains since Friday night, and still nothing :/ They told me this could go on for weeks...
But hopefully this is it for you, since you're further along than me, I'm wishing labor vibes your way!

If you do happen to have to see another DR. in the practice it isyour patient right to REFUSE the exam!

My friend told me that her initial internal when she was in labor at the hospital was the worst pain she ever felt in her life. I can totally understand that now!

I feel your pain! I was sent back to the hospital the other day - where they kept me hostage for 12 hours - and ended up getting THREE internal pelvic exams. What a fun day...

oh goodness - i dont want one now!!
would tylenol before help ease the pain a little, or NO WAY???? i cant even imagine the pain..
i havent had one yet - dont know why - and im not going to ask for one, but would love to know if there is any progression...

I just recently gave birth and don't remember any of the internals really hurting........maybe it just depends on your body?

The end s ucks! I hate the last 3 weeks. I have my first internal next week NOT looking forward to it- it is so painful!

After 30 weeks it was all downhill for me. With each week it got worst and worst. Hang in there it sounds like you have very little time left.
