Anyone been on a cruise were it stops at the Bahamas- I have a question

We will be going on a cruise soon. I cannot decide if it is safe to get in a cab and go to Atlantis or take the shore excursion which is also a catmaran ride up the coastline and Atlantis. My friend said she did not feel safe getting in a cab, with all the crazy people out there- another friend said it was fine and 5.00. DH and I are debating what to do. I say peace of mind- and go with the cruise shore excursion -he says save the $$ and get in a cab- I have never done this before. The catamaran and atlantis are 54.00 a person. Did you feel safe going in a cab in the Bahamas from the pier or would you not chance it and go with the cruise shore excursion. We are NOT cheap people ... TIA

Well with any of the cruises I would take a taxi and I think it is okay - but honestly I always do the shore excursions (doesn't matter the island) only b.c IMO it is hassle free - you don't have to worry about being taken, having to get a return taxi, missing the ship etc. You just get off the boat and go and if they are running late they hold the ship for you since you are on a ship sponsored tour. Last time we were there we just walked around the town b.c there were several other ships docked and we were only in for about 4 hours.

Also I happen to enjoy catamaran rides so that personally would be a plus for me to take the tour.

If you don't mind the more of the hassle and want to save money I think it would be okay to take a taxi from the pier to go to Atlantis. Just a warning I have heard that the traffic coming back from there can get bad b.c a lot of people are all trying to make their ships before sail away and it can take a while to get back. Since often all the ships leave within a short time of each other.

i stayed in atlantis and took the water taxi to Nassau. I would take a water taxi to Altantis. They stuffed the taxi, but my hubbie and I felt safe.

We took the water taxi from Nassau to Atlantis and felt safe.

We paid to do the tour of Atlantis after that.

I would do the excursion though personally - the catamaran ride sounds fun!

I did a Bahamas cruise a few years ago. We didn't do the excursion, but just took the water taxi from the peir to Atlantis.

I've also been to Atlantis for a business conference years ago, and it was fine to take a taxi.

Our cruise stopped in the bahamas. We took the taxi, it was not a problem. Took one there and back.

It's always a good thing to consider shore excursions that are backed by the cruise lines - for obvious reasons.

In the case of a day trip to Atlantis however, you should be fine. My wife and I were docked in Nassau just a month or so ago on the Fascination. I wanted to do a special tour at Atlantis, so we took the water taxi over. It is safe, but as some people have mentioned they pack you in like sardines. It's also a little hike from where they drop you off to the hotel lobby. Going back to the ship, we got a cab right outside the main doors of the hotel. It was just the 2 of us and the little extra we had to pay was certainly worth it in the time and walking distance we saved.

Either way, you should be fine.

when DH and I went to nassau we took a water taxi to atlantis and it was fine.
