When did you tell your boss and did you have...

...a game plan set out for when you hoped to be back at work etc?

I will be 13 weeks on thursday and have not told my bosses yet. They work in a diffrent state so we dont see each other at this time of year - I was going to hold off until about 16 weeks to tell them as I have to come up with my plan of action for what I want to take off for maternity leave- I am the only employee to its not standard.

Do you think this is too late to tell them?

I told my boss around 14 weeks. I did not have to discuss my plans with him at that time either. In fact, I only just discussed my maternity plans with my boss about 2 weeks ago (I'm 36 weeks now).

Around week 15 or 16. My boss also is in another state, but most of the people in this office knew and I wanted her to find out from me and not someone else (even though there are different depts).
No plan... just told my boss then a few days later I told the rest of my co-workers. No maternity leave talk till I'm closer to my DD. Right now I'm 22 weeks and due in May so she's aware around that time I'll be doing less work and preparing to be on leave for a few months.

I told my boss when I was around 21 weeks. I told him when I was due and i think he just assumed I would take our company's standard 3 month maternity leave.

At my annual review, he asked for approximate dates that I would be out.

I had to tell boss right away. I work with radiation and some procedures I do put me at risk of exposure.. so had to tell her so I could be scheduled so I didnt get assigned to those procedures. Otherwise I would have waited until I felt comfortable with telling.

i told my boss right away, bc i am high risk and i wanted her to know.

Just told him at 12 weeks - I told him I have no idea how much time I'll take off, and will discuss it with him as it gets closer

Thanks for the replies ladies. i think I will hold off until about week 15-16 and will give them a broad outline of what I plan to do....

i told them at 13 weeks... and yes they asked me that day what i was planning on doing...

i already know our company gets interns in the summer so hopefully they can get one while im gone... and i'll be back by the end of august- 12 weeks
