Jewish girls-- a ?

Are you having a baby shower? If not, are you worried that you will end up having to buy yourself a lot of of the things you need? I registered this weekend, but I realize that I probably wont get much til after the baby is born...at which point, I will need a lot of the stuff and wont be able to easily go shop for it...

I'm very torn about this ! I really think I want to have a shower b/c I'm not usually one to believe in superstitions but I'm not sure how my family feels about it so I have to see. I registered about 2 weeks ago and definitely want to have a lot of that stuff before the baby comes!!

Re: Jewish girls-- a ?

I didn't have a shower with DD, but everything that I needed was purchased prior to giving birth by close family members. Things that were super important to have in the house immediately (ie- carseat, swing, bedding, etc.) people sent over.

DD got TONS of clothes after she was born, and $$ which we put into her savings account.

We did have to buy some stuff on our own (onsies, receiving blankets, diapers, etc.).....but we really saw that as our responsibility to take care of anyway.

Re: Jewish girls-- a ?

I'm due in 3 weeks, and did not have a shower. We purchased the essentials we'll need for when the baby is born and had them shipped to my father's house in LI. He'll bring that stuff to us when I have the baby.

Essentials are:

Pack n Play w/bassinet so she has a place to sleep when we bring her home.

Swing and bouncy seat

We also purchased the crib, but will not have that delivered until after the baby comes home from the hospital.

My mother and grandmother did purchase the car seat and snap and go for us which are currently in the trunk of my car. Any clothes I purchased, my sister has. She will wash them and bring them to the hospital so I have something to take the baby home in. I know my mother also purchased a load of clothes as did my sister.

Anything else, I'm sure we'll get as gifts after the baby arrives otherwise we'll buy it ourselves. Not to concerned about it. I'm pretty sure the baby will not go without what she needs.

I did not have a shower. My MIL bought us a layette. We got the furniture shortly before he was born. I had a bassinette and a swing and a few other essentials. The gifts came pouring in starting the day he was born. Showers are fun but not necessary.

Oh yeah--car seat!

Re: Jewish girls-- a ?

I didn't have a shower... I mean, it is sorta an inconvenience to not have a shower (I am a total planner and like to be prepared)-- but, everyone else does it. I do not have one friend who had a shower.

Close family members bought the stuff we needed right away-- so we have that. Anything else, like the smaller stuff, we bought ourselves.

I have stuff in the room, and my crib was delivered a few days ago. At some point, practicality has to come in-- but it depends on the level of your beliefs.

Friends have told us that the UPS guy will be here CONSTANTLY and DH will be breaking down boxes for at least an hour every night!

Re: Jewish girls-- a ?

I'm not worried b/c as long as we have the carseat, bassinet, some clothes, bottles, etc... we'll be fine and as soon as this baby is here we'll be showered with lots of gifts from friends and family

I'm jewish, but my husband is not. Originally I wasn't having one, but then my mother and I started talking about it and now I am. Just booked it yesterday and I'm totally excited. I already received gifts from friends when they found out I was pregnant so I got over the superstition thing pretty quickly. Plus, I'm a total planner and I like the idea of having everything I need (and not having to buy it all myself ;)
