IVF#2 a bust - please help - poll
Apparently at 40 I have great estrogen, so much so that it was not suppressed by birth control pills and I have produced, 2, yes count'em, 2 eggs on my own. They aren't cysts, blood tests confirmed my estrogen is rising and I will have 2 eggs - currently 1 is a 22 and the other is a 14..
So, IVF is out this cycle. Dr. Cain has given me a few options: 1. do nothing, wait for period and start over with different protocol. 2. trigger tonight and abstain from bd'ing until I get my period. 3. trigger tonight and have an IUI on Sunday am.
Part of me feels like maybe I should do the IUI, like I was meant to do this now. I know, it's stupid. Part of me is afraid to do it b/c the last pregnancy was successful, in that I got pregnant, but lost it due to a chromosome problem. IVF with PGD would help eliminate this problem.
I am on a fence. DH says he will do whatever I want.
Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

I would do nothing. If you do get PG and there are any issues, it's going to delay you that much longer. I wouldn't take a chance and just wait for AF, you are going to ovulate any day now anyway.

Honestly Patty I would do the IUI. Just because like u said the fact that u created the follies on your own - its almost like a sign.

Re: IVF#2 a bust - please help - poll
I wouldn't risk it. I'd do either the first or second option...
I know this is small in comparison, but right as we started I found out I had lost my immunity to Rubella. I could either sign a waiver and go ahead with treatment or get another vaccine and wait a month (meaning we'd only get 2 cycles covered by insurance instead of 3). The RE said the chances of me contracting Rubella and passing it onto my child were VERY slim, but I still couldn't in good conscience take that risk... no matter how small. In this whole IF journey I've been on the crappy end of the statistics and I wouldn't be able to handle knowing that I could have prevented that just by waiting a month. Again, I know it's totally small in comparison and really up to you to decide what you are comfortable with.

I am in exactly the same crappy boat as you. I dont know "officially" till tomorrow that my IVF is a bust but I'm prepared. I also cant tell you what to do, but I CAN tell you what I'm going to do and why. DH and I decided to spend a ridiculous amount of money on PGD for a reason. If we didnt have such pain and heartache with IVF #2, I would probably tell the doctor to lets go ahead with IUI, but...I made a decision to do the testing. I'd rather stick with my original plan which was rational, rather than make a emotionally charged decision. Heck knows I dont wnt to wait, and I know you feel the same way when i think "well maybe THIS one will be IT!!!" Then I think about all the OTHER IUIs I have had and all the failed IVFs I have had and that there must be a reason why they failed and the PGD is going to figure that out. So, I opt to trigger...wait for AF and start this darn thing all over again....stim cycle #5 here I come

Patty!!!!! What would stop you from doing the IUI??? There is a chance for this to work!!! I dont understand why you wouldnt?
ETA: I see why now.. Shouldhave read everything first . I would still it because the odds of it sticking again are not that high usually the egg doesnt fertilize.. But m/c are so painful i do understand exactky why you are hesitating... Go with your gut.. Sorry your even dealing with this..

I agree with Gerty. With the variables that you personally have going into this, that makes the most sense to me.
What a hard decision to make...

I wrote the intial email right after I got the phone call, I was still surprsied I produced 2 eggs with no fertility drugs, on birth control pills. (by the way, how does that happen? LOL.)
But on my drive home from work, I was calmed, and I believe it was my faith that lead me to this calmness. By the time I got home I knew what I wanted to do. This situation has been presented to me, there are no guarantees in any pregnancy, including PGD, I want the IUI. It may work, it may not. I will tell you this, it will be the least stressful IUI I've ever had b/c I'm totally ok if it doesn't work.
Domino - good luck and all my faith and prayers for you! Having my IUI tomorrow, when are you doing yours?

The doctors have given up with BCPs on me. And we will not be using them the next stim cycle. My body doesnt care whether I take them or not. This happened on my first IVF cycle too. So now with massive IVF meds and starting out on BCPs I have two mature follies on the right side and one mature follie on the left

thanks for the babydust and right back at ya As for my IUI? It would have been on monday, and honestly, would have been a complete hassle...the waking DH up at 5:30 to "do his thing" and then race like a looney with his stuff to St. Brook...sit there for an hour, then drive myself to the train station and work a half a day in nyc would just be out of control. So what are we doing? Dr. S the funny man that he is, gave my DH a prescription for "sex" with six refills. Yes, we are gonna try it the old fashioned way...and if it works it was meant to be....wouldnt that be a hoot...as for the actual prescription DH said he is framing it if we pregnant and will hang it in our kid's nursery.
ETA: will trigger in an hour and start BDing sunday night

Thats funny! If it was Monday, we wouldn't be doing it either..but Sunday is easy. DH has to go to work, but later so I can get the cup to RSofNY and wait with Edward Cullen in the office for it to be washed.
