First OB appt
Morning everyone! I have my first OB appt this afternoon. I think I am about 9 weeks right now. What can I expect at this appt? Will they do a sonogram/ultrasound (I don't know the difference)? Will they do blood tests? I'm not too concerned, I just want to know what to expect. Also, my DH will be with me. Can he/should he be with me in th exam room the whole time or does he come in at a certain time. I realize that I sound like a complete idiot here.

Re: First OB appt
i had mine yesterday at 8 weeks they will do a sonogram to see hte heartbeat and that the baby is growing and measure him to see the actual due date. if you have not had your blood test they will also test your blood to see if you are a carrier for an gentic abnormalities, check your hcg levels your blood type etc.
then you will review your medical history and any questions you may have
it s really exciting i wish you the best enjoy every second bc it goes fast

You don't sound like an idiot at all!!!
They will most likely do a sonogram (btw, sonogram and ultrasound are essentially the same thing). They will also take lots of blood to test for...everything really. Also, yes, your DH can come with you and be in the room with you for every single appt from here on out if you want hiim to. It's a good idea for him to be there especially for this one because your OB will also go over family medical histories for both sides as its important for them to know what/if any additional genetic testing needs to be done or if they need to keep an eye out for anything based on family disease history, etc. Then they will also have you give a urine sample and check your bp and weight (these 3 things they will do at every appt). Have fun!

Re: First OB appt
Thank you both very much for the great info. My DH was asking me what he should expect today and I think it's so funny how he just assumes that I should know, like I do this everyday.

Re: First OB appt
My dh was allowed to stay in exam room entire time. If your 9 weeks, im sure they will do a sono since your past that time they want. BW i had done in the lab b/c they do about 13 vials of blood for genetic testing. Youll get a packet of papers telling you want to avoid, and what to expect the next 9 months.
Congratulations and Good Luck!!

Re: First OB appt
Also, don't be too surprised if you get an exam as well. If you haven't had a PAP in the past 12 months, chances are they will do one.
My husband actually stayed in the room during the exam part (I didn't have a pap though, but they needed a culture swab to test for Ghonorrea as it's state law where I live). But we went through invasive fertility treatments to get pregnant, so he was no stranger to seeing me getting poked and prodded!
