I think this is the first day that I'm reallly concerned

about what is happening with the economy. I know people have been getting laid off left and right, businesses are closing, there's less work in almost every sector and I'm reallly scared.
I work for my dad - plumbing business - he had 25 employees - he had to lay off 7 after the new year. & I just called him and he's home sounding so depressed, I'm like dad its going to be alright, he said Gab my phone rang once this morning. And usually his phone is off the hook ringing from 7am to 9pm. Then he asks me did anyone call the office and im like just 1 phone call.
I mean Im sure that this has hit home with so many of you but this is sooooo friggin scary. & I've never seen my dad like this, he is the biggest optimist. i just feel like crying.
DH is a self employed carpenter and I already notice him coming home early.
Can someone please tell me that its going to get better

Hopefully- things will eventually turn around. Don't worry about it right now

well unfortunately it might stay the same for a little while. I have a lot of hope that when Obama takes office the stimulus package he's talking about and any reforms he's got coming might help businesses out. My DH is an electrician, and he sees a lot of trades getting hit......carpenters being sent home b/c the project is running out of money to pay everyone, this has happened to him on 2 job sites in the past 3 months. I feel like it has to get better, b/c I can't imagine it getting too much worse! hang in there!

I really do hope things turn around. I am laid off as well as of November and our household is relying on DH's income. The job hunting is very scare.

Oh yeah, this is the first month we really felt it too. One of DH's jobs is he owns/runs a mutual fund that invests in Israeli companies. Because it is internationally based, the trickle effect of the US economy took a little longer to hit, but this month, the shiat definitely hit the fan. His take home pay from the fund this month was 40% less than usual!

It is such a scary time DH is laid off right now and we are moving in a few weeks go figure! He is in the union and it is part of his job but it still makes me nervous when he will get picked up again, usually it's within days and it's been a little over a week now. It is def. rough out there, hopefully there is an end in site.
