Had our first childbirth class last night

It was ok....but honestly, I have to say I felt like I knew everything already...from here. I swear she's going through all these different scenarios, options, stuff about shots, etc. And from being on this board for so long and lurking on the parenting board to read up ahead of time, I really felt like the kid in the class who was bored and unchallenged. Like, tell me something I don't know. Chat Icon Chat Icon And we have 2 more classes to go. Chat Icon Chat Icon

But it was funny because all the other girls/couples there were kinda clueless. And it's not like they're way earlier along than me, the nurse won't schedule you in a class until you're at 2 months away or less. But some of them had no idea about anything.

Just made me thankful for all the stuff I've learned here.....and kinda annoyed that we're spending $300 on this class when I'm getting it for free everyday here. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Had our first childbirth class last night

this was one of the reasons why I dropped my class, got my money back and bought that Laugh & Learn DVD.

Also, the teacher s*cked. She was going over signs of how you knew you were getting your period-- and I was like, um-- I have had my period for 20 years and I am 7 months prego. I think I have that down.

BTW-- did you take the class at the hospital??? We did ours a little closer to home instead.

That's too funny! I didn't even think about asking for my money back. I probably should have. My DH said he liked it enough so I guess if anything, he'll learn something. Chat Icon

We didn't take it at the hospital. We took it through them but it was one of their nurses that teaches the class at various Cornell affilliated dr. offices. This one was at a pediatrics office on the upper west side.

$300.00???? I'm sorry, that's CRAZY. Wendi Andria runs a childbirth class (BabyBreaths) and it's 125.00 per couple for two 3hr classes.

Wow! I hope you get your money's worth!!! Chat Icon

Re: Had our first childbirth class last night

We just finished watching the Laugh and Learn DVD. I dont feel it is necessary to take a class after watching. Plus I can't sit through all that!!

Haha, I agree, hence why we rented our DVD from the library (Laugh & Learn childbirth). Honestly, what a waste when you can get all the info here on LIF!!

I def. should have looked around more. It was the one my OB office recommended so I just called her and booked. Oh well, expensive lesson learned.

Re: Had our first childbirth class last night

Hearing this made me feel alot better.

I decided not to take a childbirth class- due to $$$ to some degree, but mostly because I feel like I have learned so much on this board, coupled with reading I have been doing.

My thoughts are once I am in labor with all the pain/agony etc the stuff I would have learned in class will be out the window lol.

Re: Had our first childbirth class last night

I just bought the laugh and learn video.

I did take a child preparation class that was really good. It was only 3 hours and cost $50. I learned a lot from that!! DH and I where glad we took it.

I was going to take a BF class but bought the BF video instead (same company as Laugh and Learn). It was just as good as going to a class.
