after 15mins, i would just hang up and call back.. they probable forgot you were holding.
eta: its the first day back after the holidays probable super busy.. but also could be a clue of what you may be dealing with in the future.

Hang up & call back. Also mention to the doctor you were on hold that long.
They may not set an appointment for you right away. I wasn't seen until 6 weeks with my first & @ 5 weeks with my second (but there was severe cramping/spotting).

This is what I was thinking. Have you had this problem with them in the past??

Re: dumb Q. not entirely pg related
thanks. i hung up and called back. they totally just forgot about me, no biggie.
so she said they had no appointments for new customers until feb or so....
i explained i just found out im pg and need a prenatal checkup. she said "if youre gonna keep it you shouldnt wait until february"
she took all of my info, put me in the computer as an existing patient and said it would be better for me to walk-in.
so i'm going to try that i guess.
OR do you think i should try to make an appointment at Planned Parenthood?
one more Q (sorry) if i walk in (lets say at 8:30am when they open) do you think i'd be seen and done by 1pm??? i need to be at work around then.

Re: dumb Q. not entirely pg related
hmmmm.. I might see if I could find another Dr. that could see you sooner.
Just keep in mind, most OBs won't see you until you are about 8 weeks pregnant for your first appointment.

That's pretty inappropriate.
I would try a different ob just based on that comment.
If you have insurance, you are cash walking in the door to a doctor. Deliveries, sonograms, etc. are thousands of dollars. Please don't settle for someone who isn't on the same page as you.

Re: dumb Q. not entirely pg related
Barb... i thought that was weird too...
i called my friend who reccomended it and she said "it was alittle ghetto.... but i only had to wait two weeks for an appointment"
SOOOOO.... i called the gyno i saw last year for my pap smear. i thought she left the office but apprently she is back!! its a beautiful small office , NOT ghetto at all.
i called and they put me in Friday Jan 16th! Perfect! less than two weeks away.
i felt comfortable with them last time, so i feel better about going to them again.
i just hope when my insurance ends and i switch to medicaid or whatever they accept some form. ill have alot of questions to ask!

Re: dumb Q. not entirely pg related
When does your insurance end?
It may be worth it for you to opt for COBRA.
Are you on DH's insurance? I don't think he can take you off unless it's int he divorce decree.
Jess - just so you know a lapse in insurance coverage can make pregnancy a "pre-existing condition" & you won't be covered. Don't let a lapse take place!

Where do you want to deliver/what area are you looking for?

Just keep in mind, IF your current OB doesn't accept Medicaid and you end up needing to switch, you may be responsible for the co-pays for all your visits at the current doctor. Most insurance companies PG coverage works in that you pay one co-pay on your first visit and not again. Then your doctor gets paid by your insurance company after you deliver. If that doctor doesn't deliver the baby, they get paid accordingy to some other fee schedule and they are allowed to bill you for the office visit co-pays at that point. Might not even be a big deal, but wanted to mention it.
Now I'm not sure if that's how your insurance is (mine is Oxford), but when I switched practices mid-way, I received a bill for co-pays for three visits and it was explained by the office that is how it works with insurance and you switch.
