how did you tell your family?

even though we'll be just 5 1/2 weeks along, I think we're going to tell our immediate family on New Years Eve......just curious how everyone told their parents or siblings when they found out, and how long did you wait to tell them?

Re: how did you tell your family?

we didn't share until 11 weeks but that was just because of my personal issues (alcoholic mother who can be CRUEL)....

it all depends on what you want to do!

we videotaped an ultrasound and played it for the parentals....so it was very special.. Chat Icon Chat Icon

wow!!! that's amazing!! we're going to tell them a little earlier b/c DH is one of 7, so sometimes its hard to get them all together at once, makes it easier w/ the holiday (and if I tell them separately I know somehow his mom will spill before we get to tell everyone ourselves!!!).....and DH is DYING to tell everyone, he didn't even want to wait until New Years!! Re: how did you tell your family?

I desing stationery for a living so I took a picture of our EPT digital that said pregnant and designed a new "Card" and gave them to our families in person. I told them this was one of my new cards and I wanted feedback on it.... At first they thought it was a joke and then when I said it was real they went bonkers!!!Chat Icon

Re: how did you tell your family?

I called my mom as soon as the second line popped up & since she was sitting next to my dad he figured it out from her bouncing up & down & screaming. We told DHs parents over dinner at their house when I was about 8 weeks.

I POAS... and I called my mom. That's it!! I could't hide that from her.... we're very close and I was so excited. PLus, God forbid aynthing happened, I would want her to know. Then we eventually told siblings and other people... but honestly, we did not wait very long. Like I said, these would be the same people that would know if seomthing went wrong. I told close friends at about 8 weeks and co-workers at 12 weeks.

Re: how did you tell your family?

I told my sister, parents and grandmother almost right away. We told dh's family on Christmas eve. I bought a card that said Grandfather and put a pic from the first sono in it for FIL. We did this in front of all of dh's siblings, the reactions were great!
I told the rest of my family on Christmas day. I bought a couple of babysitting books for a couple of my girl cousins (all about 13yrs) and let them open them in front of everyone. They were so confused at first and them after a minute they caught on. I got some really great pic's of peoples reactionsChat Icon

We told our parents around 8 weeks. I couldnt wait any longer. We just went over to my parents house with the ultrasound picture and handed it to my mom....she started crying immediately (happy obviously!) my dad didnt get it for a few minutes but he is dense sometimes.
We told DHs mother over the phone (she lives in Ireland). I told friends at about 9w and coworkers at 12w.

Re: how did you tell your family?

At Christmas we gave both sets of Grandparents a card we made , with a picture inside of a baby with the caption "Coming Soon To A Grandparents House Near You".
Everyone freaked. I never saw my FIL cry so much!

Re: how did you tell your family?

We told my sister before anyone else... about 4 days after my positive test. She was over the house to go Christmas shopping with me.
I said, "Hey, do kids usually walk at a year old?"
Her: "I don't know, I guess some do..."
Me: "Oh ok good - 'cause I was hoping our kid would be able to walk down the aisle at your wedding Chat Icon" (this is before we knew it was 2!)
Her: [SQUEAL, SCREAM, SHRIEK, Chat Icon, Chat Icon]

Then for our parents, I photoshopped santa hats on our 2 little ultrasound beans and put the pic in a "Grandparents are special people" frame/ornament 10 days before Christmas. MIL thought it was puppies and my Mom thought it was kittens...but eventually they got it. Chat Icon They never had ultrasounds Chat Icon

We shared with the rest of the family on Christmas Eve. For my family, we took my youngest cousin upstairs and told her first, privately. She is 12, and beating Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (diagnosed in april 08). She's the baby for another few months . We asked her if she felt up to making the announcement and she smiled from ear to ear. She BOUNCED down the stairs, stood up on a chair and screamed, "EXCUUUSE ME, I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT....NIKKI AND RICH ARE HAVING TWINS. NEAR MY BIRTHDAY. THANK YOU!" and she just giggled. Chat Icon Everyone dropped what they they were doing and just started screaming, "Whatttttt?!?!?!?" There was lots of screaming, laughing, crying, hugging. Chat Icon It was great.

For DH's family, Christmas was a little different this year. His Uncle is suffering from end-stage cancer - a brain tumor, actually - so the party was moved to his house. He was confined to his recliner the whole time, but he was there. DH just stood up and said, "Nicole is pregnant with twins!" Again, there were lots of hugs. Early the next morning, his Uncle fell and was rushed to the hospital. Later, when he was "with it" again, he said that the only thing he remembered about Christmas was the babies Chat Icon.

I'm so glad we told the way we did Chat Icon

Re: how did you tell your family?

When we told DH's parents, wewrapped up the ultrasound and i put it in a box and warpped the box, their anniversary is December 23rd so it was their anniversary/christmas present. They loved it. They had just been joking around a couple weeks ago that they would have to adopt grandchildren....i had to laugh a little when i heard that.

Re: how did you tell your family?

I am just 5 weeks myself. We told our family on Christmas! We just got a puppy and everyone thinks we are crazy with this puppy...we e-mail monthly pictures of him , took him to see Santa...you name it we do it.
So as a "joke" I bought a doggie calender to give our moms, with all of our puppys pictures for each month. When we found out we are expecting, I took a pic of DH by the tree holding the daddy book and My daddy rocks tee shirt I surprised him with.
We put that in the September month (I'm really due Aug, but we are telling eveyone September so they don't DRIVE me crazy if I'm lateChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon ), we highlighted the week of labor day in Pink and Blue and wrote coming soon.
Both moms didn't get it at first, they both thought another puppy was coming. Once it was pointed out...they were thrilled! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: how did you tell your family?

I will be 6 weeks tomorrow and we told our families on christmas eve. We wrapped a onzie from the gap that said "the perfect gift" with a little poem I made for my mom and for his mom I bought a big nursery rhyme book and attached the poem as well. They were both shocked and loved it!

Re: how did you tell your family?

This time around, I got my BFP on FILs bday. We were over there and DH said "We have some news" and he told them.

I came in and called my mom immediatley. I told her, Im going to test again in the AM on a digital and I'll let you know. She texted me all night long "Are you up yet"? "Did you do it".
I sent a message back around 6AM and said "You're going to be a Nanny again".
She was ecstatic.

Sadly, mom passed away just a few weeks ago, but, I know she'll be in the OR with me during my C Section and watching over me.

For our friends, we hosted a "Harvest Party" and dressed DS in his PJs...A "Big Brother" shirt...It took a while and finally one of my friends was like 'OMG...are you pregnant?"...The house went crazy...LOL

We told DH's family on Christmas eve with t-shirts that said "I'm gonna be a nanny again" and "I'm gonna be a poppy again." We told my parents on Christmas Day with t-shirts that said "first time grandma" and "Don't I look to young to be a grandpa?"

Re: how did you tell your family?

I told my mom like within minutes of testing. I was so excited and totally out of control, I had to tell her. We told DH's dad by giving him a photo frame that says "Grandpa makes everything fun" on Christmas Eve. Then on Christmas, we told DH's mom by giving her a "Grandma's brag book". They were both so funny, they opened their gifts, looked back and fourth between us and the gifts and both starting crying, jumped up and hugged us.

Re: how did you tell your family?

I was 6 weeks pregnant when i took a dig test (on mother's day!) and got a positive. we didn't think twice about it, the timing was so perfect...when we went over to both parent's house, we made a toast to the mommies and announced right then that i was expecting...everyone was ecstatic!
