Quick Question About Kate DiCamillo
I've been reading to my class the Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. They are throughly enjoying it, so I decided that since I like the way she writes I picked up The Tale of Despereaux yesterday. The only thing being I picked up the Junior Novelization version (because it was cheaper) and didn't realize its not written by her but someone else. I really like the way she writes and tells a story. Should I just get the version she wrote (it does start out differently) or just stick to the one I bought (its about 50 pages shorter).
I'm not sure what I want to do. (I won't be reading it until after the holiday break).
Thoughts?
Also, Being that the Movie comes out on Christmas I asked my students if they plan on seeing it. Would them seeing the movie first ruin the image of how I read the book to them?
Thanks

Re: Quick Question About Kate DiCamillo
The original is such a beautiful story. Take it out of the library over break and see what you think. If it were me I would read the original, but I'm partial to it. =)
As far as seeing the movie first, the book will be in more detail. Maybe you can do a compare/contrast activity with the ones that saw the movie. But seeing the movie may get them excited to hear the book too.

Re: Quick Question About Kate DiCamillo
Get the original version. I love Kate DiCamillo also. We are going to start our author study after the holidays.
Tale of Despereaux Guide I used this guide last year to help me plan (click#2)
As for the movie, I'm sure they took liberties with plot, so your students may find it interesting to compare what they saw with the actual story.

I would definitely check your school library - that's what it's there for! the public library would love to help out too.
