For those of you who have alarms....
with remote police and fire monitoring what company do you use? Our house already has the hardware installed we just need to have it activated.
Thanks!

Dont you have to sign up with whoever installed the alarm?
I don't think an ADT installed alarm would work if you called Slomins. I could be wrong though.

Nope, if they need to change out any of the equipment they'll charge you for those components, but generally speaking they all work together. It's a matter of where your alarm box routes your call more than the equipment. Both Slomins and ADT have been trying to get us to convert our service, but their monthly monitoring is higher than I pay now.

Who do you have now? I found Slomins to be pretty cheap.

Lowitt. I pay $21 a month. We just continued ILs contract after calling around and most companies were closer to $30.

Hmmm... not bad. I got quoted for $34 a month for Slomins... but that included a cellular transmitter which was an extra $10/month.
I won't get a security system without cellular. My wife refuses to hook the security system into the Optimum Voice.

Not sure what our transmitter is, I'm sure it's pretty old but it's working (knock on wood!)
Our company requested that we not convert to Opt Voice, or keep a landline for the system if we do. I guess they had a lot of problems with Opt Voice.

My wife works for Cablevision... so we get free everything. But since she works in a more "technical" department... she is well aware of all the issues the OV has with alarm systems.
So the OV is here to stay. I thought about getting a separate landline... but I found the cellular transmitter to be ideal.
The cellular transmitter means the security "brain" can call home with zero wiring. No phone wires. No cable wires. A crook can cut every wire and phone line outside your house... the cellular will still be able to call the central station. This is an extra monthly fee and usually requires additional money paid up front for the equipment.

Wow, very cool! Our alarm was set off last year when Verizon accidently disconnected our phone line instead of a neighbor's.
Maybe we can look into it next year when we don't have as many "must do" projects on the list.

Re: For those of you who have alarms....
We just installed ADT... I didnt really care for slomins IMO... They (slomins) only had one monitoring system with no back up and there install was more. We went with ADT and it was just installed - The installer was GREAT and the sales Person was good as well... I would recommend ADT...

We have Slomins. It was a lot cheaper than some of the others and we really only wanted a basic system where the noise would scare someone away if they tried to break-in.
I didn't need all the fancy features you get for twice the price from ADT. Plus Slomins did the install for free.

No, our old homeowners had adt or something and we used budd morgan to upgrade the equipment. I think central station costs us around 20 something/month...
