prices in Paris
I know Paris is a VERY expensive city! DH has been trying to prepare me by saying things like "don't be surprised if coffee is $8 a cup"
for those of you who have been there recently (I know someone on here was just there last month), can you please give me an idea of prices for things like cabs, dinners (nothing super fancy), etc.
thanks!

Re: prices in Paris
it's similar to NYC...keeping in mind the euro to dollar.
a cup of coffee is 3 euro..here it's 3 dollars...so it will be slightly more expensive, but not crazy.
France is no Switzerland, I promise you that.
food is generally more expensive in Europe (much less subsidized than it is here) but you can find cheap eats all over.
if you haven't picked up a guide book...get Rick Steves...I usually do a Rick STeves and a Frommers...and pick whatever they BOTH list
good luck and amusez-vous

Re: prices in Paris
We were just there.....
Prices in Paris were NYC like....except in euros. (which sucks but it's worth it!!)
Cabs are little pricey but we walked a lot anyway and so will you.
Food I thought was normal as well.
Breakfast was included in our hotel, I think I had a croissant everyday.
I don't think you have much to worry about.

Re: prices in Paris
I was there this summer but I think the exchange rate has come down a lot since. Expect to pay similar price to what you would pay in NYC. I did find that a coke/bottled water was expensive (around 6 Euros!)

Re: prices in Paris
I will give you an idea of what we pay in the UK...
A Starbucks Grande Vanilla Latte is £2.70, thats about $4.05 at the current exchange rate. A 16 oz diet coke costs about £1, thats about $1.50. I would guess that prices in Paris are close to this, maybe a little bit more expensive.
Hope that helps

Re: prices in Paris
When I was in Paris, I found the prices were similar to NYC. That was before the Euro using the Franc. I headed to Cannes after that and that place was expensive, so Paris was like a walk in the park.
You can definitely save more by going to a supermarket or a fromagerie and picking up a picnic lunch. I also remember a wonderful street called Rue Clare (spelling?) and there was this incredible crepe stand and the crepes were $1.
This was almost ten years ago, so my advice may be outdated, but I hope it helps.

WOW - that went up pretty fast...DH was just in Amsterdam 2 weeks ago and it was $1.25 EURO to $1 USD
I have always found prices to be reasonable, but plate size is much smaller (which is probably a good thing)
have a good time!

ha ha, that was DH and I plan, but it got old quick. If they offer the french continental, it's nothing like our continental breakfast. you will have a great time, there's a lot you can do without spending too much.
